Stability control issue

If the Stability Control is similar to the setup in the Park Avenue, there are a few sensors involved: steering wheel position, accelerometer sensor, yaw sensor, and the wheel speed sensors which are part of the hub assemblies.

One of the sensors may be getting "flaky," or it could be a wiring issue as it connects to the sensors. I had a wheel speed sensor wire that was shorting out, but that caused the ABS warning light to come on (not the stability light).

When I had the stability light (PA gives a message), it ended being a faulty Yaw sensor, but I did get some DTC's to point in the direction. Without a code this will be a lot harder to find; may have to wait (frustratingly) for a sensor failure, or check the wiring.

Maybe another Lucerne owner has dealt with this...

I would go along with bigsky and his post. Very difficult to solve, especially without any stored codes. My wife had this once, I believe (at least that was how she described it) and pulled over into a parking lot and called me. I asked if anything "felt" different, she said no, so I asked her to turn the car off, sit for a minute of two, and start. She did and continued on to work without incident or dash warnings. She has had other strange lights, pop on in the past, and then go away. My belief is when these cars get old, like all of us, things don't work to factory specs. Dirt, loose wires, and aging sensors start to send erroneous signals to the BCM. A slight change in voltage from spec will signal a fault. Several years ago we were having a traction control warning (I believe it was that) and I broke down and took it to the dealer. Apparently the sensor on one of the wheels was sending a lower than expected voltage, and apparently there was a fix for this rather than changing the sensor. There was a software upgrade fix which changed the voltage specs the BCM would allow, which allowed for a wider rage of voltage, thus not triggering a fault. Anyway, good luck with it. As nice as these car are, I would still rather work on a 1969 Pontiac with the only electronics being a stereo. LOL

I am not that familiar with the Lucerne, but check the manual to make sure what the light means. Does it mean the stability control has engaged or that there is a problem with the stability control?

The PA gives a message; "stability active" or "service stability" (or similar words). Since you are getting a reduction in power, that would seem to indicate the stability control is being activated. Still could be a sensor though is going bad.

Can always try the reset computer trick. With the car off, disconnect the negative battery cable for 10-20 minutes or so. Reconnect and drive as usual for a couple of weeks for the computer to relearn and set its parameters. Car computers get glitches just like regular computers, and need a reboot.

I am having the exact same problem....upon acceleration it will randomly decrease my power and the trac light flashes for a second. Only i am getting a code for loss of vommunication with the air ride. Any suggestions?

Ah so its an electrical issue then. Loose wire or air ride sensor broken? It has only happened once since my original post and again I dont get a code ever.

Im thinking so...i dont see any broken wires either, think it might be the sensor. Makes sense cuz when i think about it, it happens when i am accelerating uphill near where i live.
