06 lucerne North Star runs great 143000 miles just suddenly start over heating after 7 or8 miles normal interstate speed 70 mph 80 degree day Added some anti freeze drove home about 5 miles heat stayed halfway on guage thought it was fine started to drive it next day and after maybeb5 miles heat started going up by 7 miles heat warning idle engine stopped let it cool just a few minutes it would come back down some but with in another mile or two temp would be back up hot engine ? Thermostat?

Thermostat change would be the first suspect if it has never been replaced, radiator cap may also be something to consider. Coolant is also another factor if it's never been changed and may need a system flush. But if coolant is being put in it must be coming out and that has more possible options such as bad hoses, loose connections, water pump, head gaskets.

Take a look at the oil for any milky color and check the exhaust for vapor and/or a sweet smell just to confirm. A pressure test may the first step, but the radiator cap or thermostat change if looking to just toss parts at it would probably be the first ones.

Be sure to install an Stant Fail Safe Thermostat when you replace it. If it fails. it fails open, not closed!

Wouldn't you stand a better chance for replies if you posted in the Lucerne forum instead of Encore?

LOL good catch. I often get my Lucerne confused with Encore's in crowded parking lots but I'm old and own a Buick so it's fitting.

I know nothing about the Lucerne or have any way to help except I fix their remote keyFOBs. I just thought if he misdirected his question that he should know, to probably get more pertinent answers by more knowledgeable people.🤓

Thermostat replaced fixed the overheating but now I get cold air from the heater until heat gauge is up to normal halfway mark still cold air for another mile or so then like flipped a switch hot air comes out?

May have air in system still if not burped, bleeding the system should help provided it wasn't a problem before the thermostat change.

Check the water pump belt too.
