Tailgate Opener

As others have said, kick not sweep. I had a ton of trouble getting it to work early on buy haven't since I started kicking.

Sometimes if I "beat" the car at picking up the transmitter in my pocket (I know because the light doesn't come on) the kick will still initiate lift gate. Kicking just left (drivers side) of the centerline of the vehicle gets the best results.

I also found the sensor to be about several inches to the left of the light logo. Once I figured that out, I can get it to reliably work every time.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my I intial post about the tailgate foot release function, especially those who verified the "swift kick" method as opposed to the "sideways sweep"--as demonstrated in the video link. I've now perfected the kicking motion, and the tailgate responds beautifully. FYI, I sent an email to Buick Customer Service regarding this issue, but after three days, I have not received a response; possibly because these are the same people who wrote the Owner's Manual which is useless for explaining how to use the tailgate foot opener. 😉

When I first got my Tour-X, I also had problems getting it to work. Now works every time done even have to "kick". Just swiftly move foot forward STRAIGHT under car. Works every time.

One thoughtful feature. If you use foot feature to close lift gate, it gives you a couple seconds to back away, and an audible warning to give you time to back away so as not to be hit on the head.

and the tail lights go on as a heads-up too

I just went and tested the kick method.. 100% repeatable. Works every time. There's no hammer self on head emoji, so: :axeonhead

I've had the car a year and a half, can't believe it took me so long to figure this one out. I knew about the feature from the start but could only ever get it to work on accident! Always tried a sweep motion as this is how any other variation of this tech I ever encountered works. Normally I'd have rooted out the problem right away. I guess I kinda chalked it up to used car problems.

Normally when I get a new car I read through any and all manuals, guides etc, really leave no stone unturned to figure out every quirk and feature. Not sure why I slacked on the TourX. Yet another surprise from reading the "getting to know your Buick" guide shared here is that adaptive cruise can be toggled on/off by long pressing the cruise cancel button. I figured it just didn't have old-fashioned cruise!

:bangtard:

but then you have no cruise at all, correct?

No, long pressing the cruise cancel button toggles the cruise control mode between adaptive and normal cruise. Normal meaning set the speed and it holds it regardless of the traffic around you.. or the weather conditions!

Last fall I spent a lot of time without cruise when I wanted it because of the weather conditions. If the car were still in warranty I might have taken it to the dealer, thinking maybe it needed calibration or something. Much of the time it spent refusing to hold cruise due to conditions, it really didn't look that bad out.

Otherwise I'm mostly fine with adaptive cruise. Still there a lot of cases where traffic on the highway is not too congested to use cruise, but adaptive cruise becomes a nuisance.

With other vehicles I own/owned it's obvious how to toggle between adaptive and normal cruise. Having both is the way to go 👍

I went back and had a re-look in the owners manual and I can't find anywhere that it talks about toggling between adaptive and normal cruise. So I don't feel as stupid.

Sad update on this one. I couldn't wait to try out normal cruise control on the way home from work and... it didn't work. I should have known better than to trust that manual. Apparently it's just wrong:

I did manage to permanently turn off cruise until I restarted the car lol, like this guy did:
I tried this on my GS. It apparently disabled the cruise control completely, not just the ACC. I was at a red light, foot on the brake, and held the button down for a while. Somewhere in 30-60 second range. I could not turn my cruise back on. I had to stop the car and shut it off and restart in order to get it to turn back on again.

No ACC defeat is a bummer but at least the liftgate works like a charm!

bummer, that would have been great, and thought I would be 1767876277909.webp

glad your liftgate works OK

Also, if your car is going to be on a lift for maintenance/repairs, make sure to turn off the liftgate switch on the door or make sure your fob is far away from the vehicle. Otherwise when you walk under the sensor the hatch will open!

I did something similar while the vehicle is parked on the ground inside the garage.
Trying to throw an extension cord from behind the vehicle between the rear wheels to the front side of the vehicle, that action triggered the rear tailgate to open.
Rear tailgate meets my forehead unprepared for the pending impact... 😵
