The Service Pedestrian Protection Discussion

We don't have pedestrian detection in the US.
I've gotten one pedestrian dash warning in my 5 years of ownership (and off topic... and maybe 5 AUDIBLE alerts for lane departure).

Hey all,

Today, while I was cruising along on the freeway on my home from work, about 30 minutes into my commute, the "Service Pedestrian Protection" warning popped up apropos of nothing. I pressed OK and the warning disappeared.

When I got home, I shut the car off and restarted. The warning showed again.

I haven't hit anything. No crazy potholes. The hood is flush and opens/closes completely normally. The pyrotechnic poppers look brand new and haven't gone off. It just shows me the warning now every time I start it.

Anybody have this happen to them? Is there a way to just disable that, like with a resistor or something? I really don't want to have to miss work just to drop it off at a dealer.
Do you have fog lights? Next time you turn your lights on check the fender lights (or fogs). If they are not on then the connector may have come loose

Yep - the harness that contols all of that is the same - fogs, marker lights and the PPS. Down behind the passenger headlight...maybe easiest to get to by removing the fog lamp. Big plug.

Mine is constantly displaying now and all connections are snug. I've unplugged the harness and reconnected, yet still getting the message on my dash. I'm trying to avoid taking it in to the dealer because it's my daily.

You could unplug them and clean the connectors with electronics cleaner

Will unplugging the connector at the pedestrian sensor cause and error codes? That would be my main concern as I don't have a code reader to clear it if it did. I'm also afraid of triggering a detonation if I unplug it.

You could disconnect the battery to avoid detonation. And if the battery is disconnected it shouldn't throw any error codes.
