Buick Ownership
None as of now
Hello all, first post here.

I've previously only driven full size Ford products (panther platform), and while i love them, i want something different this time.

Thinking of buying a '72 LeSabre 2 door hardtop someones selling for $4500. I've always wanted to delve into classic car ownership and this seems like a solid choice. Has a little rust around the rear windows and fenders but otherwise seems solid, and interior is in good but not great shape. Definitely not a pristine classic but that's not what I'm looking for. Has the 350 V8 and allegedly 97k miles.

It will be my regular car. It won't be a daily driver in the traditional sense but it'll be driven more than just a few times a year. Probably 2-3,000 miles annually. Since I'm a truck driver, I'm away from home 2-3 weeks at a time, and i mainly stay at home on my off time, except for the occasional road trip.

Just wondering if this is a good idea. Is it hard to get parts for these cars? I know my local Autozone ia probably out of the question. What in particular should i look out for if i go to buy it? I'm not the worst at mechanics but I've driven but never owned a car with a carbureted engine. But I'm willing to learn.

Any help and opinions will be appreciated

Welcome, there are many long-time Buick owners here, able to add to your interest. You will get lots of good questions and advice.

I have my second Buick LeSabre, first a 93 for 20 years, and now a 97. But I also have a 1969 Beaumont convertible. In the 60s and 70s GM produced a solid line of full-sized cars. Your 1972 Lesabre sounds cool.

You will probably be up to your elbows doing things on your new car, and enjoying every minute. Be sure to ask many questions.

50 years old and almost 100k expect everything is at the end of life cycle. The under carriage should be inspected, fuel, brake and suspension components especially if in a road salt area. Engine and transmission are still available for parts but not like a SBC just something to mindful of.

Check Ebay and other sources for parts prior to purchase as that will be coming up if you by it. Lots of other GM models share various common items but certain interior and exterior parts are going to be Lesabre only. Rust around the window especially if it has a vinyl top will have more underneath more than likely and is not a easy fix.

The 1972 does have the cleaner body as 73 came out with the impact bumper and smog equipment was getting pretty heavy in use. Check online for other 72 for comparison on price and condition to the one you are looking at. At this time they are not in demand so pricing is reasonable but it could hamper repair or replacement costs as it may exceed a resale value. Hopefully it may work out for you and your requirements.
