Buick 94 RMS 3.23 gears, magnaflows, CAI, TB delete, SMOG pump delete
Just took my 1994 RMS with 48K miles to a indicated 143 on the climate control display last night. Stock except for K&N CAI, TB Bypass, and Magnaflows. Still has silly 2.56 open rear. No issues. One handed driving. Has anyone else topped out their Roadmaster? Tell me some top speed stories! Just looking to see if anyone else with 2.56's has hit 140+. Is this common for these cars? Thanks, Uvaldi.

Doesn't really matter gear ratio they have. With the speed limiter removed, and enough road, they will all make an attempt to around 150mph. My Roadmaster with 3.73;s, and a short 26" tire, could still theoritcally do 150mph+, given enough space. It does get up to around 130mph quickly. Which is as fast as I have seen it go. My dad was driving it. He would love to use it as his squad car. 😀

I have not really pushed my other cars, since I don't trust the tires on them to handle the heat from speeds like that. I did have my 95 Caprice 9C1 up to around 130mph on the way home with it.

110 only because she needs a rear swaybar and the tires I have are more for show than driving.

I have been up there before but, I didn't have the digital speed displayed. The needle was buried and I was toying with a new BMW 3 series that past me doing about a 100. It would be nice to take the car to a long, straight track and test for top speed. After suspension and tire mods of course.

140 is surprisingly effortless in a B-body with an LT1. The LT1 propels these heavy tanks nicely. Our cars gave a lot of new cars from the 94-96 era a run for their money. Some sporty cars included (ie. Auto 94-95 Mustang GT). That's a shame.😱

what tires do you have? size and speed rating?

And how the hell do you get rid of the top speed limiter?

Got rid of the limiter with an old Hypertech Power Programmer. Tires are not speed rated to 140. Just new Firehawk Indy 500 235/70/15 with factory steel rims.

147 mph was as fast as I went in my old car

133 in my old 94 RMS with 240K+ at the time. I could've kept going, but decided to let off when the GTP that was trying to catch me finally gave up. I think he must've hit his speed limiter 😀

I bet he was like, WTF! 😕

look, its not how long you live, its how you live it🙂

I had a s-rated tire blow at 120 mph on my 64 bonneville. I believe in speed rated tires.

136 mph up in wyoming in my 94 RMW.....small one-lane (VERY straight) highway/road with oncoming traffic and 4 people in the car asleep.....a minute or so in the two in the back woke up and were like "hey, are we going fast?". Guy in the front was awake for it all and was genuinely scared in a "no man, i'm cool" way but you could tell he was about to crap his pants. I suppose that's what happens after driving as far as we did those two days, just sheer boredom induced insanity. Having to use GPS to tell how fast i was going was an interesting experience though.

I-70W across Kansas with a "new" 'Vette on the side. Had cruise set at 120 and the 'Vette came along side and gave me a thumbs up. I motioned for him to "stay with me" and I hit it. 147 (according to HIS speedo) was all that my wife could handle and I got tired of the bitching and let up.

He followed me for the 30 something miles to the gas station and he was impressed.... the wife was NOT!

The Limiter if I remember right cuts either fuel or spark in the engine. I remember a 92 RMS I had would cut in and out at 110 holding the speed at that limit. Maybe another member knows what is exactly happening w/ the limiter.

The 94-96's cut the fuel for a few MPH. You will hit 108mph, the fuel cuts out until 103 or something like that, then comes back on.

Are these vehicles stock not made for that speed?

They are limited by the tires used. The 94-96 Caprice 9C1 was virtually identical to a 94-96 Roadmaster sedan with the towing package. The Caprices were also limited by the tires used. They got a better set of tires, and some were limited to around 150mph.
