Trans problem - wont engage out of park

Me and my mechanic buddy had to replace a bad torque converter in my '99 Buick Century Limited and I saw the Trans Go shift kit online and thought "wow that fixes a lot of problems" ..well now it won't move out of park, the shifter moves, but the car doesn't and the pawl will click for a few seconds before catching when returned to park. we stayed up all night putting it back together so we called it a day, but was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what could be wrong?

Yeah. My friend has a decent amount of mechanical experience, has an associates for high performance vehicles. He grew up rebuilding and working on cars with his dad and has a shop in his garage.
