Turns over and dies

In the morning or after being somewhere for several hours my 93 park avenue has starts right up with no problem. If I drive somewhere and am only there for a couple minutes it will crank, turn over then die after a couple of seconds. Sometimes it wont turn over at all. Why is it that it starts up fine when sitting for a long time but takes several tries when only sitting for a little while? Engine flooding? Can someone point me in the right direction to take on the problem. I don't want to take it to a dealer because I'm limited on funds.

Can you please clarify this statement? Sometimes you turn the switch to start and nothing happens? I assume you have checked all the battery connections, alternator output and battery under load?

i mean i most the time it will turn over and then die after a couple seconds and after that when i switch to start, it cranks but doesnt start. i hope that makes sense. checked the battery connections and had a load test done but i havent checked the alternator output. i just thought its weird that it starts great after sitting for a couple hours but has trouble when it hasnt been.
