what is the top speed for a 97 buick park avenue ultra?

Anyone actually planning to try and go that fast in their Park?

I have checked the top speed, my 91 base is limited to exactly 110 mph (on gps, the speedo gets outside the scale...). Engine does just about 3500 RPM at that point

I haven't tested the top end on a ECM controlled car, but my '93 PAU goes past 90 like it's not there....

Some years ago, the GM engineers pulled the wire for top end on a Grand National, and it really got up there to over 150 MPH. Back then, the Corvette guys hated those Grand Nationals !😀

I had a PCM re-flash on my PAU GTS, which eliminated the 110-mph speed limiter. Top end is now unlimited and ungodly! I have very few safe places to exceed the speed limit, but have buried the 120-mph speedometer to the peg several times in less than 1/2 mile. Of course, this is not a normal, or stock engine!

I got to about 120 with my 1997 Bonneville back in 2005 and the engine died. I thought I had blown the engine but I let up on the accelerator and it came back to life. I realized it must have had a governor of some sort. 😳 😉

Depends on the stock speed rating tire
I went 109 and the car made a weird filling and would not go any faster.
108*
I hit 125mph last night in my 97 ultra
127*

GM use of a speed is rooted in a few things potentially
1) If the speed rating of the tires equipped factory, 15, 16, 17 inch wheels are mostly at play for the full size 90s-2000s GM full size cars
2) the final drive ratio. the engine may on flat ground be hard pressed to hit the speed rating, and driving to that max max speed could be hard on components
3) Simplicity of PCM / ECM widespreadness. its possible speed limits may be indiscriminate in some applications only because of mere possbility of "one sidze fits all" engine managemtn, they may have just chosen lowest speed that may be shared by the tire, moss etc
4) CAr handling specific as speed

heres my 99 ultra at 108

heres my old 01 aurora at 127(same FinalDriveRatio i think) that had 16s stock yes, but that engine had way more top end and it was a very solid/rigid improvement over 99 just like how lesabre was great evolution itself

Well, with my 96 Base, all stock, 200k mls, I did 90 on the highway today. Not only for a minute but cruise control set for some 30 miles.
(In the past I pushed it to 100+ a few times.)
Typically however I set 65 and let it cruise, much more enjoyable. And as BGFM mentioned, top speed is more strain on the machine. Not sure if I want this for a 26 years old cruiser.

Unless I am mistaken, I think the factory equipped tires were speed rated "T" (Base) and "H" (Ultra), which would be 118 and 130 mph, respectively.
I believe more common nowadays are "V" tires, which would be 149 mph, at least in my region.

If they are 118 and 130 my guess its then 1) keep under the tire speed of course 2) probably due to NA while at that high speed, gm wouldnt bother to give calibrations for each and every build, if NA cars and supercharged both got T tires, but one car could go faster, for example, it wouldnt matter unless it had H tires. if that makes sense. Because final drive and the ratios of Hd trans is different Im pretty sure

I have 2000 ultra tops out at 107, I guess the tires were not rated above that speed

I don't understand what is impressive about 120 mph with a supercharged 3.8 liter V6.
