Hey guys, been fighting with my wipers for the last little while and can't figure this problem out. When I first got the car the wipers worked but they wouldn't shut off, or they would seldomly/randomly shut off. The delay didn't work properly either, it was 2 speeds only. So I replaced the green relay, didn't fix it. I then replaced the stalk, still didn't fix it. Couple months later my wipers stopped mid wipe, and I couldn't do what I normally do, fiddle with the stalk until I can get them to reset.

I thought my wiper motor finally quit on me, so I ordered a new one and that still didn't fix my problem so I ordered a new wiper control module, I tested it out and it worked but my wipers wouldn't turn off, the delay worked, all modes worked, except off. So I restarted my car, they did reset but I was unable to get them to move again, the fuse didn't blow either.

I'm really out of ideas here, I've replaced pretty much everything I can think of. I'm thinking it's the parking switch or something? The wiring may look jankey and that's because it is, I've had to do some trial and error so there is quite a few crimps on the wires, I feel like the wiring must be wrong or something but I tested all the connecters and they seem to be receiving power, does anything look wrong to you? Any ideas of what could be going on? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks guys.

If you have a wiring diagram, determine if the wipers need a power or a ground from a switch or relay to turn them on. Then test that wire for the appropriate signal when you try to send it from the wiper switch or relay. If the signal does not come, provide one using a jumper and see if the wipers turn on. If they do, then the issue is with the control circuitry. Then just work your way toward the next piece of equipment, such as the relay or switch, and determine which is not working. You may find a wire that is chewed or chafed, a wire that is routed over a sharp corner, a plug that is damaged, melted, making a poor (intermittent) connection, or unplugged. At each piece of equipment, supply the signal needed to turn them on. If they turn on, then the wiring is good enough from there to the wipers.

Inside the wiper motor is a switch called the "park switch". It usually rides on a cam that keeps the wipers on after you turn them off so they can then be turned off when they come to the parked position. Think of it like 2 light switches for 1 light. If either one is on, the light is on. One of the switches represents the actual wiper switch, and the other is the park switch. When both are off, the wipers stop. You may have a bad or poor connection inside the wiper housing itself.

Sounds like you have a grounding issue. The wipers are ground-switched, so early on, when your wipers wouldn’t shut off, a ground was present when it shouldn’t have been.

The sequence of events presents like a ground wire was shorting to the body and now has completely worn through or corroded at a connection point. Are all other systems on the car working correctly?

The fact that replacing all of the wiper components nearly cured it should make you feel better that you didn’t necessarily waste al of your money.

You will need to trace and test the wiring to see why there is no ground available to the wiper system.
