I think they would look good. I am a fan of 5-spoke wheels. Here is my 2003 Jetta TDI with 18" 5-spoke wheels (my first new car):

These are the chrome versions of the TSWs.

Personally, I would go for mesh wheels.

Ah Sporty, gotcha. Then you need a nice set of Rays then.

If he has the stock 18" wheels, they're not going to look sporty no matter what color they are. Plus size if you can but I personally would not go over 19". 245-45-18 on 18x8.5 wheels would look nice but 255-40-19 on 19x9 wheels would be even sweeter.
