Customer-Driven Updates Define 2019 Buick Envision

2019 Buick Envision

2019 Buick Envision

New design, performance and tech features starting at $32,990

DETROIT — Refined design cues, responsive performance enhancements and intelligent technology expand on the Envision’s growing popularity.

The 2019 Envision features a newly sculpted front and rear, signature grille and new wheel choices. With a focus on quality and safety, the design and engineering teams also welcomed input from current Envision owners to enhance the vehicle.

“Some of the 2019 Envision’s most notable changes are the results of listening to our customers,” said Elizabeth Pilibosian, Envision chief engineer. “Beneath the updated exterior are a number of changes guided by a goal of offering the most refined and pleasant driving experience possible.”

Envision highlights

  • New nine-speed automatic transmission for 2.0L turbo models. Buick now offers this innovative transmission on five models across the lineup.
  • 2.0L turbo engine offers increased vehicle performance of 252 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The engine and transmission updates produce 0-60 mph acceleration just under a half-second quicker than the 2018 model.
  • Engine stop/start deactivation switch — a Buick first in North America.
  • Single rate brake booster for improved overall brake performance that requires less effort.
  • Flexibility to switch between Adaptive Cruise Control and conventional Cruise Control.
  • Enhanced visibility on Rear Vision Camera.
  • Improved hands-free microphone for better call quality and better voice recognition.
  • The seat heating system warms up more quickly.
  • Next-generation wireless charging with wattage capability for fast and efficient charging, including iPhone8/iPhoneX compatibility.
  • Lighting upgrades across all trims: HID headlights standard on 2.5L models, bi-functional LED headlamps on 2.0L turbo models and LED wing signature lights on every model.
  • In-vehicle air ionizer that helps eliminate odors, reduce bacteria and provide better air quality.

Focus on the customer

Initial owner feedback and solid sales growth indicate the Buick Envision is delivering the luxury and features desired by compact SUV customers. Refinements across the 2019 Envision are aimed at providing the best that the vehicle offers, plus the flexibility and options customers desire most at a price point true to Buick’s attainable luxury promise. Pricing starts at $32,990 (excludes tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment). All trim levels have been adjusted toward the heart of the premium compact SUV market, further positioning the Envision to capture the interest of loyal Buick owners looking to move up to the next-sized compact SUV and conquest buyers who are considering Buick for the first time.

“The Envision brings a tremendous growth opportunity for the Buick brand,” said Sam Russell, Buick marketing director. “The new pricing strategy not only puts the Envision in the heart of the industry’s largest segment, but also better positions it in relation to Encore, our top-selling nameplate.”

Nearly 60 percent of all Encore buyers come from outside General Motors. These new-to-Buick customers are increasingly return buyers, with nearly half of them likely to trade in their vehicle to buy another Buick SUV. In addition to attracting new customers to the Buick brand, the 2019 Envision is designed with these existing Encore customers’ evolving needs and preferences in mind.

Thoughtfully refined, inside and out

The Envision’s exterior has a sculpted front fascia, new grille and headlamps that align with the new face of Buick. Crisp horizontal lines on the front create a more premium look and feel, while redesigned taillamps, reflectors and side markers give the back end a wider and more athletic stance. New optional 19-inch wheels provide an expressive and distinct profile.

Premium lighting technology is featured on every 2019 Envision. HID headlamps with LED Buick signature lighting come standard, with the enhanced performance of bi-functional LED headlamps standard on the top two trims.

Under the hood, the Envision offers a balance of performance and efficiency with a nine-speed transmission on 2.0L turbo models that allows for an increase in torque from 260 lb-ft to 295 lb-ft and an improvement in acceleration.

A 2.5L inline four-cylinder engine mated with a six-speed automatic remains the standard powertrain for the 2019 Envision and goes unchanged from previous model years. It is offered in front- or all-wheel-drive configurations.

Driven by customer feedback, the 2019 Envision is equipped with a non-latching stop/start deactivation switch on the instrument panel that allows the driver to choose whether to use the auto-stop function. The calibration of the Envision’s stop/start technology has also been refined for an even more seamless experience.

The 2019 Envision offers a Buick-first Tire Fill Alert that lets a driver know when a tire has reached its recommended pressure level.

Other standard features include Buick’s signature QuietTuning; 10 airbags1, including side curtain and knee airbags; Rear Park Assist; and newly added Rear Seat Reminder2. Available features include Surround Vision, Safety Alert Seat and Forward Automatic Braking, among others3.

Every Envision comes equipped with an 8-inch diagonal infotainment system with Apple CarPlay4 and Android Auto5 compatibility, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot6 (an unlimited data plan for $20 per month7 is available through AT&T after trial period), a limited trial of OnStar8 and connectivity access at no additional cost. Along with other benefits such as the myBuick app9, the connectivity access features Smart Driver, an opt-in service designed to help Buick owners become better drivers.

The 2019 Envision goes on sale in the spring of 2018 and will be available in five trim levels starting at Envision ($32,990), Preferred ($34,495), Essence ($36,795), Premium ($41,695) and Premium II ($44,595). Prices exclude tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment.

Cascada Launch Leads Buick’s Perception-Shifting 2016

Cascada Convertible attracts new customers ahead of three more launches

05.18.2016 – Over the past three years Buick‘s global sales have grown well beyond expectations.  Their sales have already increased astronomically through 2016.  In the month of April Buick experienced an all time high in sales and new customer growth from competitor brands thanks to the Cascada.

The two leading models are the new Cascada and the ever popular Encore reaching pinnacle sales within the Buick community.  Between January and April of 2016, more than 35,000 new customers have switched to Buick.

Cascada has outperformed in the month of April with 1,090 sales and over 2,487 between January and April 2016.  The percentage of Cascada buyers within the first three months of the year have hit an all time high of 64%.  This percentage comes from new Buick buyers who’ve traded in their vehicles made by other manufacturers, including Toyota, Honda and Audi.

Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick Global Sales, Service and Marketing, said “The lasting impact of the Cascada will be a change in perception that only a sexy, sleek convertible can provide.”  He believes these figures are from a total change in concept, attracting buyers to the country’s largest convertible markets.  He’s shown their highest sales growth comes out of Texas, California, New York, Florida and New Jersey.  These states are also an important factor in Buick’s continued growth and success.

Cascada is one of four new models arriving in U.S showrooms and just the first of two components for Buick.

Envision is now at dealerships and promising a new model for 2017 with a starting price of $34,990.  Among other progressive features, the Envision offers the largest list of standard safety while pricing $1,300 less than the Acura RDX and $6,000 less than the Audi Q5.

Encore has reached more than 57% of sales from customers coming from competitive manufacturers.  These customers have cited quality, value and exceptional exterior design as the most popular reasons for their change of heart.  Due to their competitive pricing, the Encore now represents over 40% of Buick sales.

While other manufacturers are rolling out their line of smaller SUVs, Buick has already prepared for their new 2017 Encore to be released later on this year.  This model will offer a more sophisticated design while providing the leading features that customers want most.  Some of these features include: Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and 4G LTE Wi-Fi for as many as seven devices.

Among Buick’s customer strategies, they’re offering the refinement and technology that people are expecting from a luxury automobile with a price tag similar to their competitors.  Due to their incredible strategies, Buick has won the Kelley Blue Book’s “Best Value Luxury Brand” over the past four years.

Duncan Aldred believes the release of their four newest models will have customers defining what the brand is about today – not yesterday.  The 2017 Encore will be released alongside the new LaCrosse sedan, the Cascada and the Envision.  It seems customer’s misconceptions are fading away while sales are on the rise.

Customers are becoming more demanding in what they expect from vehicle manufacturers.  With the soaring price of vehicles, consumers are requiring higher quality, better design and feature packages to attract their business.  Buick is on the cutting edge of providing buyers exactly what they’re looking for.  Rolling out their 2017 fleet later on this year might very well place them in a position that could make them a top manufacturer globally.

GM Introduces the 2016 Buick Envision Luxury Crossover

2016 Buick Envision

2016 Buick Envision
DETROIT
– 01.10.2016 – The 2016 Buick Envision is an all-new luxury compact crossover with segment-challenging driving dynamics, advanced technology, connectivity and Buick’s trademark interior acoustics. It is a global vehicle, designed from the ground up as a Buick luxury compact crossover. It goes on sale in the U.S. in the second quarter of 2016.

“The all-new Buick Envision is a modern, confident and responsive luxury compact crossover that combines the brand’s core characteristics with great performance features like our HiPer strut suspension,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick. “That dynamic experience behind the wheel is complemented by Buick’s signature luxury, whisper-quiet cabin and connectivity features to benefit drivers and passengers alike.”

Vehicle highlights include:

  • 252-horsepower (186 kW) 2.0L turbo engine with stop/start technology, Buick’s first crossover vehicle application of HiPer Strut front suspension and Buick’s first active Twin Clutch AWD system
  • LED daytime running lamps and rear LED accent lights
  • Efficiency-enhancing features including active grille shutters and a structure incorporating mass-reducing high-strength steel, and an aluminum hood
  • Standard heated front seats, rear seats, and steering wheel; available cooled front seats
  • Sliding, 60/40-split rear seat, offering the flexibility of more legroom for second-row passengers
  • Standard eight-way power-adjustable front seats and four-way-adjustable lumbar
  • Kneeling cushions in the second-row seat enable a flatter load floor when the seat is folded
  • Standard tri-zone climate control with rear-seat controls
  • Programmable power liftgate with hands-free operation
  • Active noise cancelation

·       Standard nineteen-inch aluminum wheels

  • Passive entry and push-button start with standard remote start
  • Standard Bose premium sound system
  • Available panoramic moonroof.

The Envision is also designed to carry more than its competitors, with more rear cargo space than the Acura RDX and the Lincoln MKC. It’s also roomier for passengers, with more rear legroom, front and rear shoulder room, and overall Environmental Protection Agency-rated passenger volume than the MKC.

Design rewards with attention to detail
Designers and engineers were given a clean slate to develop the Envision and they employed supercomputer technologies to help make the most of the architecture for strength, stiffness and quietness. Every aspect of the vehicle’s design and its effect on refinement was taken into consideration – even the available panoramic moonroof was designed for lower wind noise when open.

“The Envision represents a compromise-free design that enabled the development team to do the things luxury customers appreciate,” said Judy Brennan, chief engineer. “Our attention to detail yielded tremendous strength and stiffness of the platform, which is evident in exceptional ride and handling characteristics.”

The clean-sheet design and stiff structure helped eliminate an estimated 22 pounds (10 kg) of add-on material to create whisper-quiet interior acoustics.

And while those attributes lie beneath the Envision’s skin, the skin itself is instantly recognizable as a Buick crossover with contemporary proportions, flowing lines and detailed surface features.

“There is tension in the Envision’s design that reflects elegant athleticism, rendering a planted stance that enhances driver confidence,” says Bryan Nesbitt, global executive director, Buick design. “It’s dynamic and youthful, with features that support the vehicle’s technologically advanced ambience.”

Envision features Buick’s signature winged headlamps and standard heated outside mirrors with LED turn signal indicators. Articulating Xenon high-intensity discharge headlamps are available.

Dynamic passenger environment
The Envision’s interior features a “floating,” wraparound instrument panel sweeps into the door panels, for a flowing, organic and inviting appearance that complements the exterior.

“To put it simply, the Envision’s cabin combines beauty with innovation,” said Nesbitt. “It telegraphs dynamism like nothing else in the segment. Everywhere you touch is a stitched, soft surface. Everything you touch is designed for intuitive, effortless functionality.”

The large center console storage bin features damped dual wing-type doors that provide easier, less-obstructed access and allow the driver or passengers – even those in the rear – to access the storage bin without disturbing the other.

Technology and connectivity
The new Envision offers a standard 8-inch Buick IntelliLink screen, as well as available OnStar with 4G LTE with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot.

IntelliLink is the contact point for much of the Envision’s technology and connectivity. It provides intuitive operation of basic functions, yet is capable of linking up Bluetooth devices such as smartphones, as well as SD cards and MP3 players. Four USB ports, four 12-volt outlets and a 120-volt outlet are included.

A new steering wheel for Buick debuts in the Envision, featuring thumb-operated toggle switches that make it easy to scroll through the IntelliLink menus and vehicle features in the driver information center.

Powertrain and performance
The 2016 Envision features a standard 2.0L turbo engine SAE certified at 252 horsepower (186 kW) and 260 lb-ft of torque (353 Nm), which is more standard horsepower and torque than an Audi Q5. It is paired with a third-generation six-speed automatic transmission.

Performance and efficiency is enhanced with Stop/Start technology – Buick’s first application on the 2.0L turbo engine. It seamlessly shuts down the engine when the Envision comes to a stop under certain driving conditions, such as a stoplight. The engine automatically restarts when the driver takes his or her foot off the brake.

The 2.0L turbo engine is offered exclusively with AWD, giving the Envision performance consistent with vehicle’s ride and handling capabilities. The turbocharger features a twin-scroll design that helps the engine deliver a broad torque band, for a greater feeling of power on demand. Ninety percent of peak torque is available from 1,800 rpm to 5,500 rpm and the full 260 lb-ft of peak torque from 3,000 to 4,000 rpm.

The engine is designed with refinement-enhancing features such as balance shafts and sound-attenuating components; and is isolated on a hydraulically damped substructure that helps quell noise and vibration. Four powertrain mounts are used rather than the conventional three.

Ride and handling
The Envision’s robust structure is the foundation for a balanced and confident driving experience. Buick’s HiPer Strut front suspension reduces torque steer and benefits steering feel. It’s a feature inspired by the athletic Regal GS sedan and that is not currently offered on any crossover vehicle, including competitors such as the Audi Q5.

The Envision features Buick’s first active Twin Clutch AWD system designed to make the most of handling and stability in all driving conditions. It is a fully automatic, on-demand system engineered to deliver sure-footed handling in low-grip conditions, while also contributing to a quieter and smoother ride with minimal torque transferred to the rear wheels when all-wheel-drive traction isn’t needed.

Safety features
The Envision offers 360 degrees of available passive and active safety technology, including 10 standard air bags, available Automatic Park Assist, available Surround Vision camera system and Buick’s first use of Lane Keep Assist, which is standard.

Automatic Park Assist measures a suitable parallel or perpendicular parking spot and steers the vehicle into it, while Lane Keep Assist helps the driver keep the vehicle in the lane with an automatic steering adjustment when an inadvertent lane departure is detected.

A rearview camera is standard, while the available Surround Vision provides an overhead view of the Envision that enhances the driver’s vision at low speeds, such as parking and reversing.

Additional 2016 model year standard and available safety features include:

  • Standard side-curtain and knee air bags
  • Standard Safety Alert Seat, which pulses to alert the driver about a possible crash
  • Standard Front Park Assist, Lane Change Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Standard Following Distance Indicator
  • Standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control
  • Standard four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake force distribution
  • Standard cornering brake control and brake assist
  • Available Full Speed Range Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Available Collision Mitigation Braking.

Safety and security features also include OnStar technology with Advanced Crash Response System, emergency assistance and more.
