Buick’s Global Momentum Builds Throughout First Quarter

Buick Encore

DETROIT — Coming off a strong 2017, Buick momentum continued into 2018’s first quarter with global sales up 9 percent year over year. This growth comes as new products such as the LaCrosse Avenir and updated Envision have begun arriving to customers globally, and amid the launch of an all-new family of Regals. Demand for the Regal has grown rapidly in China since the new model launched last summer, with sales up 35 percent year over year, while Regal Sportback, GS and TourX (U.S. only) availability continues to ramp up in North America.

Buick’s family of three SUVs fueled the brand’s first-quarter growth, with Encore sales surging in the U.S. and Canada and strong Enclave sales in Mexico. Encore had its best retail sales quarter ever in the U.S., and Encore retail sales were up 32 percent year over year in Canada.

The 2018 Enclave launch momentum continues to build, bringing in a growing number of new Buick customers and more affluent customers in the first quarter, with U.S. average transaction prices (ATPs) up more than $5,000 year over year. Total Enclave sales in North America were up 8 percent year over year in the first quarter.

Enclave’s shift upward in the market demonstrates the early popularity of Avenir, Buick’s new luxury sub-brand. More than 22 percent of Enclave North American retails sales have been Avenir models. An Avenir variant of the GL8 is also showing early success in China, while the LaCrosse Avenir just entered the market globally.

Buick’s growing popularity is accelerating the brand’s vision for a future with zero emissions, zero congestion and zero crashes, with an electrification strategy now unfolding in the Chinese market where demand is high. Current electrified Buick vehicles in China include the Regal, LaCrosse, Velite 5 and Velite 6—a recently announced plug-in hybrid arriving later this year. The recent reveal of the Enspire EV Concept also reinforces the brand’s commitment to electrification.

“There’s never been a time like this at Buick,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president, Global Buick and GMC. “This year marks the first full production year for many of our new models and the acceleration of our EV strategy. We’re growing sales and earning accolades that demonstrate how much Buick customers value the attainable luxury products and experiences Buick delivers.”

In the U.S., Buick customer experience was honored earlier this year, when J.D. Power recognized the brand as the mass market leader of Customer Service Index. Kelley Blue Book also recognized Buick as the Best Value Luxury Brand for the sixth consecutive year.

Buick’s U.S. Crossover Sales Rise 22 Percent in May

2015 Buick Encore

Encore small SUV has best May ever; brand sales post best May since 2005

DETROIT – 06.02.2015 – Buick U.S. sales increased in May compared to a year ago on the strength of the brand’s crossover models. Buick Enclave deliveries were up 23 percent and the Encore was up 21 percent, for its 17th consecutive year-over-year sales increase.

Buick has sold more Encores this year than any other model, accounting for 30 percent of the brand’s retail sales.

“Buick was among the first to capitalize on the rapidly growing small SUV segment with the Encore, which appeals to buyers seeking luxurious features in a smaller and more efficient package,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president, Buick. “The Buick Encore has performed extremely well in its segment and we expect it will continue to do so.”

In its debut year, Encore scored at the top of its segment in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study – practically unheard of for a new model. In a recent owner survey, 96 percent said they were either satisfied or completely satisfied with their vehicle and 95 percent said they would recommend a Buick based on their experience with the Encore.

Autotrader.com recently named Encore one of its 10 Best Cars for Recent College Grads, citing its sleek exterior styling, premium interior, maneuverability, quality and fuel efficiency.

Earlier this year, Buick was the first U.S. automaker in the Top 10 in a popular consumer magazine’s annual ranking of automotive brands. At No. 7, Buick moved ahead of traditionally high-rated automakers such as Honda and BMW. Eighty-three percent of Buick models made it onto the magazine’s recommended list – the most for any brand.

Regal on Track to Deliver Best Retail Sales Month

Hot-selling sport sedan spurs Buick’s 23rd straight month of retail sales gains

DETROIT – Phillip Barr of Gilbert, Ariz., describes himself as a “car junkie.” The 26-year-old executive assistant has owned at least 10 cars, including two BMWs, two Mercedes-Benzes and a Porsche. He recently sold his Toyota Prius to buy a 2012 Buick Regal Turbo at Henry Brown Buick GMC outside of Phoenix.

“Regal Turbo had all of the options I wanted with a luxurious interior and smooth ride comparable to a Mercedes,” Barr said. “Honestly, I’d be the last person you’d think would buy an American car, but GM has really stepped up its game with the Regal Turbo to compete with the imports. It’s just as nice to drive as the BMWs and Mercedes I’ve owned for a fraction of the cost with a lot more options.”

Regal sales in August are on track to be the best since car launched in spring 2010. Approximately 45 percent of Regal buyers are coming from non-GM brands. In July alone, Regal outsold other similarly sized sport sedans, including Volkswagen CC, Lexus IS 250/350, Audi A4 and Volvo S60. Regal’s steady month-over-month gains have helped Buick glide through recent turbulence in the luxury vehicle segment.

Regal Turbo has accounted for a third of the sport sedan’s retail sales since its launch this past spring. The turbo’s 2.0-liter direct-injection four-cylinder engine delivers better horsepower and torque than the Acura TSX and Volkswagen CC, and with its manual six-speed transmission, it also delivers better fuel economy, with an EPA-rated 32 mpg highway.

Buick will double its Regal lineup this fall with the introduction of the performance-oriented 2012 Regal GSand the fuel-efficient 2012 Regal with eAssist™.

U.S. News & World Report recently named Regal the Best Upscale Midsize Car for Families for 2011, ranking it No. 1 out of 21, based on analysis of 27 published reviews; test drives of Regal, and analysis of reliability and safety data. The magazine said that “Among midsize cars, the Regal shines with performance that balances fuel economy and power, handling and ride comfort.”

Rachel Hayes of Phoenix said she “fell in love” with the Regal when she saw it on the showroom floor at Liberty Buick in Peoria, Ariz.  The 29-year-old social worker said she’s received nothing but compliments for it.

“The new Regal is way more stylish and sexy than the old Regal, and it has a great sound system,” said Hayes who previously owned a 2008 LaCrosse. “Buick is the new Lexus. Everyone I’ve shown my Regal to is completely surprised by it.”
