So I decided to just start taking apart my interior to attempt to hardwire my radar detector and I'm going to attempt to do some sort of a write up. I planned on taking lots of pictures but kinda forgot about it in the moment so I took some as I put it all back together. Sorry about the messy car, stupid salty winters make it look like crap 😡

Start with taking the ash tray/ cubby out and gently pull up on the gloss black plastic piece towards the bottom of where the flip up door opens(where the red arrows are). Once that pops off then you should be able to slide it out. there are tabs(green arrows) that kinda act like a hinge. Once that piece is out you can pull the cig lighter/ cubby out by pulling on the clips where the yellow arrows are. then disconnect the plug from the back of the cig lighter.

By the driver side right knee there is a plastic panel that meets up to the carpet. you can squeeze a few fingers behind the plastic and pull it should pop right off. Moving the seat all the way back helps but is not necessary.

Now you can remove the other glossy black plastic that runs up by the steering wheel. There is a clip by the red arrow and the three blueish circles have tabs that you can treat as a hinge and it will come right off.

Once that plastic panel is popped off you can remove the plastic panel next to it that runs up near the steering wheel and there are 2 screws (red arrows) one is coming at you and the other is perpendicular to the first going towards the drivers legs. I believe I used a 9/32" to take those off cant remember forsure tho but I used it for every screw in these pictures.

Next go over to the compartment by the drivers left knee and open it. there will be two screws. Once those are out you should be able to pull up on the bottom where the screws were and wiggle out the light switches

now to remove the steering column cover there is a screw underneath that I took out and then realized I didnt need to so I put it back. The top of the cover comes off by pulling up on it where the turn signal and wiper stalks come out. There are two clips, one on each side, that pop off.

Once those are out it should have a few clips that almost resemble an open ended wrench(top cover) and those clip onto pegs(bottom cover)
I believe there are two on the right side and one on the left. Those will pop off just by pulling up, but be careful, there is a rubber sheet or whatever you wanna call it connecting to a trim piece below the cluster. Unfortunately I dont have a picture of that .

Once the top part of the column cover is free then you can unscrew the thin trim piece below the cluster. One screw each side.

There is one screw at the bottom outside corners of the both the tachometer and speedometer. Take those out and the cluster comes out and unclips!!

No officer I have absolutely no idea how fast I was going....😀

The front driver pillar has two clips on it. One has a leash, not sure why. Maybe so it doesn't hit you while your driving? I thought the clip held it in pretty well.

I tried to label the orientation so its easier to figure out. The clip with the "leash" unclips from the pillar cover. The red arrow points to the clip and the blue arrow points to where the clip clips 😀.
Once its unclipped you can slide it towards the headliner and it will come right out.
(This picture I'm going to try to add below because it says I've reached a maximum)

Incase you haven't figured it out by now I ran my radar detector wire across the headliner, just tucked it in up there, then down the pillar and left all of the extra wire by the fuses behind the compartment. Also you can see my concealed display hanging in one of the pictures with the gauge cluster. Still need to tap into power and ground it for the radar install to be done! More pictures later..

Then reverse the process to put it all back together.

Finished this up yesterday. I'm pretty happy with it. Maybe when it gets warmer out ill try to clean up the excess wire a little better but it works for now.

Next up tint and plastidip some chrome...

That is one hefty install, and I would assume looks great and very OEM. The pictures that you recently posted do not work. I removed them from the quoted post so it doesn't overfill my reply box once they do work as it looks like you have them posted privately in your cloud storage.

Otherwise, nice work :headbang:.

I'm using skydrive. I didnt find any settings for private viewing but if someone wants to tell me how to post the pics without uploading more attachments then ill post them. The original pictures I posted took up all of the memory that I'm allowed so I was trying a different method.
I feel stupiddddddd.

In that case, seems like an online image sharer would be a better choice!

I personally use http://imgur.com/.

Pictures work great. Really like the setup, but I'm not sure if I'm fond of the V1 sitting under the mirror like that especially in the Texas heat. Also, I would be afraid of getting my window broken into, and simply removing it every time I parked to prevent something like that would be hassle. I just have mine suction-cupped below the tint band on my car; very hard to spot unless you're bending down looking up towards my headliner. Mind me asking what type of mount you used?

Yea I dont exactly like having it underneath the mirror myself. My old car I had above the mirror and it was great(I made a custom mount) but the regal's mirror doesn't have enough of a gap. I was looking at a blendmount but i found a mirrormount for cheaper on amazon so I tried it out. It's not bad I cant complain too much really. Next time I would probably do a blendmount. I got sick of the suction cup marks on my windshield which is another reason why I bought the mount. I would like it to be closer to the mirror, almost touching but for now I'll leave it alone. Hopefully the tint will happen before summer so that will help make my setup more stealthy.
Do you have any pics of your setup?

Sure! Took a picture this morning. My car is an 09 LaCrosse, but here is how it's currently set up. Don't mind the dirty windshield, the weather here has been very bipolar and my car looks like a total mess. The power cord is run through behind the mirror and up the power cord for the mirror, you can see a second strand on it, then into the headliner and down the passenger A-pillar into the fusebox. It's otherwise well-hidden and perfectly in view for me. Since it's also so close, the volume doesn't have to be so high that it'll bother my passengers and it's in my peripheral vision.

I could have it better hidden by having it mounted directly behind the tint band, but it hurts laser detection at night.

Does that ever get in the way with flipping down the visor? My previous car would hit it and on the regal my visor is broken from the previous owner. I'm taking it into the dealer on saturday to have it fixed since that was part of the agreement when I bought it.

I cannot flip the visor completely forward, but I can flip it down enough to where it will shade me from the sun. But that means I "lose" rear detection since it blocks the rear antenna. The V1's front and rear antenna is pretty strong though, I've seen people install their unit in headrests (looking at the BMW folks), for a complete hidden install. So for sure I am losing rear laser detection, but rear radar detection shouldn't be an issue. Although, it doesn't quite help me when I have to put my sun shade on as it gets in the way. You can always switch it over to the passenger side, especially since you have the concealed display. Apply some epoxy glass or use electrical tape over the dot matrix, and the suction cups should stick. A thorough bath for the suction cups in boiling water will regain its stickiness, even the V1 manual states that.

yea ive seen the headrest installs I believe I even saw one that was in the headliner. My setup works for me right now. Well see as time goes on if I decide to move the actual detector.

Either way, your setup looks great . Having the concealed display definitely prevents the people behind or beside you from tailgating you since you have a detector.

Something I never noticed before were the increments on the edges the instrument cluster. I've sat in multiple Regals, and never noticed that before until now. Cool detail.
