My '13 Regal, with only 18,000 miles, developed some problems during a cross-country drive from LA to NYC. One is fairly urgent, the other is annoying.

1) About 1000 miles into my trip, I was getting ready to refuel and noticed that while my doors were locked, my fuel filler door was NOT locked. The filler door opens, closes, and latches just fine, but the lock feature on it no longer works. Just happened out of nowhere.

2) About 2000 miles into my trip, I'm refueling again and found my fuel gauge was inaccurate. My tank was completely full, and then some, but the gauge was only reading about 2/3. 10 minutes or so later, the gauge indicated full, but within a few minutes it dropped back down to where it was at 2/3, hovered there for hours, then moved as normal. I just today refueled and the same thing happened.

What is going on? Any ideas.

This is frustrating. The car is beautiful, and I've learned to live with it being noisy, rattly, squeaking, and generally annoying, but having things break like this, especially when I'm depending on the car to get me safely over a 3000 mile journey, is unsettling.

I do have an appointment with a local dealer tomorrow, but my inquisitive mind wants to know what's going on here and why.

Any help is appreciated.

I agree that those are annoying problems that need to be fixed, but neither one even remotely prevented your car from getting you safely over a 3000 mile journey.

Correct, there's no safety issue here, but neither of these should be a problem with a car only a year old, and traveling across the desert with a broken gas gauge, if you ask me, poses a safety issue-- a personal safety issue lol. I'd hate to be stranded in the middle of nowhere.

I think that you have every reason to be upset about these issues, but that is why you have a warranty and the dealer will fix the problems and it will not cost you anything. All cars have some issues - some worse than others and a few much worse than others. The real time to get upset is if the dealer cannot seem to fix the problems and you get the runaround - then the (bleep) hits the fan. Until you are there, though, relax and get the car to the dealer.

I don't recall these cars having a locking gas door? if the dealer has parts for the fuel sender would be a fairly quick fix, the gas tanks are easy to get on regals

Good evening JCG,

I’m very sorry to hear your Regal is having these concerns with the fuel lock and the fuel gauge. We want our customers to know they can rely on their vehicles.

While I understand you're seeking opinions, please feel free to message us privately with your VIN, current mileage, contact information and name of your preferred dealer, so we can look further into this.

Regards,

Claudia
