Unnecessary Weight

Since I am one of the lucky few that has the "fix a flat" option and not a full spare in the boot - what other things can I remove to shed some weight?

I have removed the plastic engine cover and the hood padding. Any other things that can be pulled? I know when I had my GTP the 3800 still had the engine lift hooks attached and that was a free mod.
Are there any goodies like that floating around on the GS?

Depends what you deem as unnecessary. You could remove the back seat for a few less pounds.

Without the hood padding, the engine heat could cause the hood paint to wear out, crack, and flake. I saw it on many a Mercedes back in the 2000s, and those cars arguably had some of the best factory paint work available. I'd reinstall that hood padding.

These cars are porky. Using the Raceway Park track scale my '14 GS was 3750 with a 1/2 tank of gas so it is no Honda Civic.

I'm pretty sure most of the weight comes from things you can't see. The next time you open your driver's door take a peek at all of the sound-deadening material in the front fenders.

Hey, look on the bright side there is no spare tire, jack or tire wrench to weigh you down.

BTW, that's a pretty decent time for a stock GTP. My best time with my '00 GS was 14.76 @ 93 and change without removing the driver's headlight.

Definitely look into lighter wheels if you want to reduce weight. Stock wheels are usually pretty heavy. As mentioned, a lot of the weight is sound deadening material - which is one of the things that make the GS a Buick - Quiet Tuning...

Bruh, put that hood cover back on and the engine cover before you ruin your paint . Even if you take the rear seats out and do a delete you are talking about 15lbs. I ordered 18's and wanted to save weight too, but its not worth it (as I love the look of my 20s). You want to save weight... run a quarter tank of gas instead of full, that should make up for the weight you will lose by ripping crap out. Not trying to be negative, but our cars are luxurious, why tear it apart to gain a tenth?

would agree with this,
weight at the wheels is most effective weight reduction you can do,
taking off little doodads here and there wont do much for weight, and others mentioned, heat shields ans such are there for a purpose,
if you really want to get into weight reduction, sound deadening material is heavy, would have to strip the interior including carpet to get to it,

Thanks - I had fun with that car and I miss it. Every time I see one on the road I smile and have a flashback to the glory days.

Thanks all for your feedback and input. I figured the car was a bit on the beefy side. For now I'm not going to the extreme on the weight removal (seats and the sort) I haven't tuned the car yet so a tenth second time gain is too far in the future.

I'd be curious to see at '12-13 car run some decent times.

I seem to have hit a brick wall with mine at the moment... have to get this thing to hook in a consistant fashion (stone stock, K&N drop-in).

I would go to Maple Grove and I might head out this fall 2016. What ever time I post I would have to fault the driver and not the car.
I will have to summon my inner Stig to make the run if I do bad.
I'll keep everyone posted and maybe on the day I plan to head out I will post and any other GS or Turbo Regal owners can come out for a day of fun!

I've been to E-Town and that is a bit of a haul for me. Maplegrove is a 40min ride for me as E-Town is about 90min.

I have an 01 buick regal LS, and what I'm about to do it, remove the spare tire, the wooden cover that goes over it, remove both parts of the back seat, the trunk carpeting and all the floor mats that aren't the drivers, that's a little over 100 pound of weight, and if you run with less gas that's even better. I'm also thinking about getting new wheels to make it lighter
