Regal GS FWD vs. AWD?

I have a 2014 Regal GS AWD with 20" 35's. The AWD Haldex system is awesome, zero torque steer and aggressive cornering is a breeze even in default touring mode. The AWD system is capable if transferring 90% of torque to the rear & left/right. It transforms the front drive biased GS into a 50/50 constant power transfer adding the feel of a RWD sports sedan to the GS.

I'm domiciled in the DC Metro Area, I had zero issues navigating the endless winter we had. Although I had my dealership remove the summer PZero's and replaced them with Conti DWS's on their dime a perk (to close the deal). They gave me the summer PZero's which I had installed yesterday, storing the DWS's for next winter.

Ditto, unless you are domiciled in a warm climate w/out snow or sleet AWD is the way to go.

I'm just throwing this out there.. I have Michelin super sport tires first off.. And last night I beat the shit out of my car throwing it into some tight turns with stability and traction off and really pushing it thru S turns than doing donuts and burning out and getting back to the street and flying into turns and really pushed the car..

Next time I'll get it on video but I was surprised how much grip I had with no traction n stability

So being how impressed I was with FWD.. **** awd lol

Honestly, what I really want is to keep my manual, FWD 2012 Regal GS and add to my stable a 2014 AWD Regal GS. If only.

Sorry to bring back an old thread but my question fits in with the thread. Besides tires, how much more is maintenance effected because of AWD ? Also, if given the chance to get a good deal on a GS AWD in a warm climate would it be worth it ?

My worthless two cents. What are your plans for the car? If you do a tune you'll need the AWD to get the power to the ground. FWD cars simply spin the tires too much during hard acceleration. You will gain several hundred pounds (+/-?) with the AWD as well. Maintenance, I don't think, is a big issue? Had several Audis in my day. Never noticed the all wheel drive until I put my right foot to the floor. Then it paid off. Personally I'd do the all wheel drive. None available during my shopping. Hope this helps.

There's likely a differential that will need its fluid swapped periodically. Other than that, no real maintenance differences. Slightly lower MPG since AWD is less efficient (drivetrain loss).

I have a XTS VSport with Haldex AWD and it is allot fun in the snow, not so much for the fiancé though as mynpasseneger.

I traded my Verano 2.0T with Trifecta for and if you weren't straight on the wet you were in the traction control. Even merging onto the highway and crossing the wet center section early would cause the car to bog until it had grip again. Recently traded it on a ATS 2.0T with AWD. This one has a Borg Warner transfer case and can really put down the power when turning onto a wet street in traffic. It takes less than a quart of GM BW fluid that costs $12.00.

I don't plan to tune. The AWD idea just caught my eye because there are a few cars near me that are AWD, and I live in a warm climate so it wouldnt be needed for weather reasons. I never thought of buying an AWD car because of my location but the car listings made me start to think about it a bit. Thanks for that insight, it definitely helps!
