GM performance parts Regal Stage Kit 2012-2013

Got my Stage Tune and Intake.

Old intake box and terrible tubing.

It sounds AWESOME. There are even blow off noises now.

Do you or anyone else have a loud sound for about 10 seconds when you turn the car on? The noise eventually goes away, but its a loud sound coming from the CAI area and it sounds like the car is trying to suck in air but isnt able to...Ill try to get a clip of it.

Yes, my GMPP Stage Kit also makes a loud sucking noise upon a cold start-up.

All of these engines do that, but it's probably more noticeable with the intake upgrade (louder). It is a 'rapid catalyst warm up mode'. Cam timing is adjusted, and spark is retarded to the verge of misfire, to get the catalyst to warm up as quickly as possible. Getting that catalyst working in 10 seconds instead of 20 seconds could be the difference between meeting modern emissions standards or not. Thank you EPA...

My ZZP intake does a loud turbo flutter when it's done warming up. I like it and it turns heads sometimes. Plus my Borla exhaust sounds REALLY loud when I first start it cold. It catches people off guard, especially when I tell them it's a 4 banger...lol.

It's the AIR (Air Injection Reaction) pump running. Pumps extra air into the cats to help them light off quicker at cold start.

those with the stage kit, are you guys running with the stock bpv?

I don't have the GM kit, but I do have the K&N kit with a Forge bypass valve. the blow off noise with the CAI sounds almost as loud as when I had the Forge atmospheric blow off valve with stock air cleaner box (with K&N drop in filter). Not sure if there is any difference in noise level between the stock BPV and Forge BPV with the CAI.

Had my stage tune done today at my dealer. It worked out great, lots of turbo noise, vehicle shifts quicker, holds gears longer, is much quicker, and holds boost better. Overall very happy.

And yes, the noise at startup is the Air Injection Pump, and I have a stock BOV.

Please post a picture of this pump, or a part number for the replacement part, or anything in a service manual that says these engines have one. If we do have one, it is hidden VERY well as I can't find one anywhere, and I guess they never break because the service manual doesn't mention it and there are none listed in any spare parts listings.

Or show a picture of the air line leading to the cats? I've replaced my cats (aftermarket downpipe) and didn't have to plug any air lines to do it.

I am 99.9999% sure these engines don't have an AIR pump... I'd love to be proven wrong though, and it happens a lot.

That might only be for the 2.4...

The 2.0 Turbos in the Cobalts did the same thing.

A.I.R. pumps are only for California emissions vehicles with the 2.4. None of the 2.0's does not use an AIR pump. The noise is from the turbo spooling as the pcm commands the wastegate closed and idle speed up for cold start emissions reduction, as Walt G mentioned to warm up the Cats.

Anyone have a link to the best price for this kit. The cheapest I have found is $607.

I want the GMPP intake but $600 if steep especially since I already have the Trifecta tune.

I found the stage kit here for $596.19 https://www.gmoutletparts.com/index...llenge has been issued. Let the search begin!

I finally purchased one of these kits, is it safe to drive for a day while I wait to get into the dealer? I've done CAI's on other cars, but they didn't were older, and less finicky to changes.

I installed the physical parts of the stage kit on my 2012 GS myself, and drove it for a day or two before getting it to the dealer to get the tune done. It did slightly affect the performance with only the CAI and not the tune, but that was all. I would definintely take it easy on the go-pedal, but my experience was it was safe.

Got a few questions, as I am picking this kit up for mine probably tomorrow and having the reflash done Saturday morning...
*The filter that is coming with it, is it washable & reusable like the K&N? Anything in particular to clean and recoil it with if so???
*For anybody that has this kit, have you replaced the stock filter with a K&N filter? If so, what part # did you use for the new filter?
*Any differences in power/performance between the filter that is coming with this kit and the K&N - anything that would cause an issue with the tune reflash, or would it be a safe swap of the filter?
