Still Finding New Things

After five and a half months of ownership, I'm still finding new technology.

In DIS (between speedo and tach), far right screen, "Options" Screen, I scrolled down and found "Speed Warning". Clicked on that and found I could set a speed whereas a warning would sound if I exceeded that speed. Set it to a speed, then drove. When I got to that speed, continuous buzzer sounded. Needless to say, I shut it off as it would drive me crazy once I'd get to the set speed.

Wonder what I'll find next.

My dad's 66 & 72 Electra had the same thing. It was an alert to mom when I was driving as a teenager. Needless to say I would rather rely on my radar detector.

That's interesting - what was the UI, how was it activated? Was it an analog or digital engagement? Could your parents "see" after you had driven that you exceeded the set speed limit?

All Mechanical, a Fluorescent Yellow circle like a little sun on the end of a pointer and an annoying buzzer. FM radios were an option back then.

I was playing around with the radio and came across a feature that allows you to customize the auto radio/Sirius buttons to say what ever you want. So for kicks, I changed the Sirius 'Love' station to my wife's name. She never noticed it.

I have my speed limit alarm set to 90. Haven't had a chance since I set it to see how annoying it is, so it's still set.

LOL nothing that high tech. If it was in a car you would set the needle with the knob in the center (car depending on location of knob) to a speed and buzzed. It was a "little helper" for cars that didn't have cruise control, mine were always turned far right.

Late 60's to 70's GM, that's a Buick early 70's, but fairly common on mid to upper level cars. Before radar detectors it was better than nothing, but can't remember being used in any car I drove or rode in. It probably got used as much as seat belts back then LOL.

They were pretty popular in the 1960 era Buick’s. My 1967 Wildcat convertible has one very similar to that photo, with an annoying buzzer when I go past the speed it’s set to. Crude and analog, but effective.

67 Wildcat Convertible. Now that was a car!!! I used to LUST for one.

I had a rental Chevy last summer that had that set to 47 MPH when I picked it up. I didn't notice until we got on the interstate. I had to listen to it (and my wife saying "what is that noise?") for about ten minutes until I could spare attention to figure out how to turn it off.

the gas flap is locked and unlocked with the central locking. Doors looked, no gas.

New technology? Had on 60's Pontiac Safari my dad had, was yellow pointer on speedo you set for speed alert.

Keyless entry at driver's door is once for driver's door, twice for all doors. But keyless entry at any passenger door unlocks them all.

This is a changeable setting and on my car I've set it to unlocking all even at the driver's door

If the fuel door malfunctions, there is no emergency release. You will need to break the fuel door. Beaucoup Bucks to fix. My other cars have an emergency pull cord in trunk to open fuel door.

The other bad thing. No emergency release to get car out of Park if car won't start. Other cars have a clip that you remove, stick a screwdriver in slot to push down on shifter release. You are going to do Beaucoup damage when trying to get car on a flatbed with car stuck in Park.

I agree about the fuel door, there should be a release. But pulling a car onto the a flatbed isn't going to hurt anything but the tires. They'll skid before anything is damaged. If you're really worried about it, have the car moved by a wheel lift, with the other end in a dolly, or by someone who has the equipment to deal with it. Ideal would be two sets of Go-jacks(tm), but a set of these would work fine. I used to use those on cars with no wheels when I was towing cars.

This is a changeable setting and on my car I've set it to unlocking all even at the driver's door

White needles or red? I was looking to change this setting the other day in my white needle and was unsuccessful. Found other door lock settings but not that one. Maybe I didn't look properly...my wife will attest to this!
