Still Finding New Things

there were some carpet tabs that had come free where the floor meets the rear seats, these were easily tucked back in
That moment when you thought you broke something, then realized you discovered something.

Noticed with the lights set on "auto" mode during the day with DRL's on, when I turned on my wipers for the rain the headlights automatically turned on after a few min. So, wipers on, headlights automatically come on when it's not dark enough to trigger them on.

Really good to know as my state requires headlights on in the rain

I use the Weather Station app often. (I connect through my iPhone Personal Hotspot) I knew I could get a verbal report when on the weather today Screen , but just found that when looking in the 5 day forecast screen, if I touch one of the days, I also get a verbal forecast. (But their weather map sucks compared to others because the map does not show you your location - I just assume I’m in the center of the screen).

Better than nothing as I can’t look at MyRadar on phone while driving - cops very strict with that new law.

...just a random fun fact I found this weekend...when you open the hatch while the engine is running, the warning in the info center features a sportback as the animated vehicle...

Here's a tip I learned on my ATS, so it probably applies to any GM vehicle (it works on my GS too) ... if you want to leave the car for a short distance while it's running and the keys are in your pocket (e.g. to go to the mailbox or run back into the house), to prevent the annoying beeps just close the driver's door slightly ajar, where it's just touching the door frame.

Great info. I often leave my wife in car with a/c on when I run into convenience store to buy a mess of deep fried gizzards. (Love them).

..or leave the key fob in the car?

Is there any way to keep it from beeping when you want to leave the key in the car, car not running, doors closed ?

It's gotta be one of the settings you can turn off. I turned off all the beeps I could and my car doesn't beep at me when I leave the key in the console while I wash it.

I can also leave the car running, key in my pocket and get out to check my mailbox with no beeps or honks of the horn.

I'm glad to have turned off all the alerts so that all I need to do is not be a complete moron in the operation of the car and there will be no issues.

Found that out on our first road trip and was really happy with that feature. Given the stupidity of the average driver that should be a standard feature on many new cars.

Also, if a car doesn't have automatic headlights, the dashboard lights should remain off in DRL mode so that the morons know to turn their full headlights on at night.

BTW, are you PrincipalDan from TTAC?

Guilty as charged. I'm writing my own little review for them to see if they might take a swipe at it.

That sounds good, where do they have those? Sounds very convenient.

Did you buy the car, or just rent it for the review? Good luck, hopefully they accept it 🙂

Two near gas stations have them in their deli. I normally get a quarter pound for around $2.29 and add some siracha sauce or honey mustard. I guess you have to grow up with it. My wife and friends won’t eat it. I also love Tripe (made in the Italian way, not the Hispanic way). Also love Escargot. (Swore I would never eat Escargot, until I got brave and tried one. Now I love them).

BTW. The door on first latch works. No beep when I leave wife in running car while I go buy my gizzards.

Unfortunately, I learned that it’s possible to flood the engine if you press the start button too long. I have a 2019, came out of the gym exhausted, and pressed the button too long. Sends it into a startling cycle of starting. Luckily, I turned it off quickly and it was fine for the very short drive back. Don’t try this at home.

lol it's mine. Bought it and within a couple of days left on a family vacation, put over 3000 miles on it during that 2 week period. I'm sure the miles will come much more slowly now because my commute is roughly 12 miles per day.

Quick update on the wiper/automatic headlight function: (this works on the Essence, not sure about the Preferred)

With lights in auto position, wipers must be turned on to full wiper motion, not intermittent, to get headlights to turn on automatically.

However:

Once you turn wipers on fully, then to intermittent the headlights will stay on and visa versa until you turn wipers off.

If you go to intermittent first without turning the wipers fully on, the headlights will not automatically turn on until you switch to full wiper mode.

There you have it! With all of the off and on thunderstorm rain jockeying over the holiday weekend and daylight travel from picnic to picnic, I had several opportunities to play around with it.

Great info. I was wondering why my headlights would only sometimes come on.

Thanks.
