How to swap a TourX to Sportback front bumper

You are building the vehicle that GM should have imported in the first place. Congratulations on owning the car I wanted for months before GM announced they were importing thee Country Tourer but not the Sports Tourer.

Thank you. As I said on @RoRi GS build thread, GM might have sold a few more units and closer to sticker had they went the non-cladded route. I’ve tried to stick to domestically available parts to save a few bucks and I am happy I’ve gotten this far with the available options. I’m not a huge fan of the stock wheels, but I have to admit they look a bit better to me without the black cladding everywhere. Rear bumper is next...will try my hand at modifying existing part vs order one of the options from Europe (there is a also rear diffuser with no “fake exhaust” chrome trim available there).

I am thinking for retrofit my Tourx with the front bumper from GS. It looks that I will lose front foglights since the GS bumper has no fog lights. With bulbs disconnected, I might get a code on the dash. However, Chinese designed DRLs for their Regals GS'...

My question is if I can reuse my existing Tourx bumper reinforcement, bumper support, etc.

Hopefully, I will need GS items shown below (items 1-10)

Suggest you read through this thread...which is where I got a lot of ideas to do mine:

Buick Regal Sports Tourer project

As for the impact bar and the rest of the underneath bits like upper/lower absorbers - those should all be the same parts. Even the lower splash shield (I think they call it a stiffener) is shared...mounting hardware should also be all the same.

I compiled all parts numbers for complete GS front bumper cover:

I agree with a lot of the sentiments here. This is what GM should have sold. @Zaxer Would you mind posting a rear 3/4 shot that captures the existing bumper and GS side skirts ? I’d like to see them together in the same shot so I can see how the stock TourX bumper looks with the GS skirts. Thanks in advance.

Hope you can see it well enough - it does look awkward - so I’m looking at a couple ideas before breaking down and ordering the Opel parts from Europe...stay tuned...

Why not paint a plastic black rear bumper trim to match the car's finish? Like you did with side skirts.

The existing TourX cladding has a fine "pebble"-like texture on it and would require a lot of prep to sand it (or possibly flame treat it). The GS skirts are designed to take paint (they are smooth) and can be easily ordered from any GM parts source. The parts pictured above are special order via Europe, and are for the "sports touring" and "OPC" trim levels not available in the US (unfortunately). The side skirts run 338€ each plus shipping. The rear valance as pictured runs about 85€ (provided you re-use your existing chrome surrounds) plus shipping. Shipping for all this is around $215€...plus paint once you get it here.

Thanks. It does look a little off but not terrible. Anxious to see what you come up with on the bumper!

I changed out the nose on my TourX this weekend and luckily the last 5 items listed are on the TourX already, because I switched that whole bottom assembly over to the Sportback nose without disassembling anything. The last 5 part numbers apparently are used on the GS, Sportback and TourX. The only thing I had to do was remove the two L shaped brackets attached to each side of the stiffener that are exclusive to the TourX. The good news is that you'll save $70 something dollars and have fewer parts to put together.

Also, if you buy just the nose from GM, you will have to reuse your side marker lights and frames, which are unfortunately heat bonded to the interior of your existing fender. I was able to separate them from my nose using a flat blade screwdriver and slowly working around the perimeter of the lens frame. Then I put a bead of black 3M Super weatherstrip adhesive on the inner perimeter of the frame and fitted both assemblies into the SB nose and used painters tape to secure front and back, making sure the lenses are flush with the outside of the fender and let it cure overnight.

good to note - as the reflectors were already in my parts yard special it never occurred to me how they were attached. I just plugged in the harness...would love to see pics!

I searched, eBay and car-part.com for used GS bumper cover assembly. No luck so far, plenty of GS grills for sale. I am going to paint both side marker lights to match the color of the bumper for a cleaner look.

Used GS bumper 39144692 for $ 305.00

How much did you pay for all parts? My list for brand new GM Parts is $1,019.04 from the dealer. Part numbers for GS parts numbers you ordered and installed:

That is correct. I actually did a Sportback nose swap and found a used one for $275 shipped. I wanted to keep the factory fog lights and put amber LEDs in them. I am at $806.44 for all the parts to complete the project. I was able to scavenge all the clips, bolts and nuts from my TourX nose so in my case I didnt have to buy any of those. Hope this helps and if you have any questions I'll be glad to help if I can.

I took pictures of the side markers after I installed and glued them because I figured I wasn't the only one who would run into this. As you can see in the first picture, there is a flange all the way around the lens that you can put the bead of adhesive on for a good bond. I taped both sides to keep the lens flush as the adhesive cured.

Did you pay $275 for used barebone bumper cover or it came with some extras? Brand new bumper cover from GM dealer cost $330 (primed)

I weighed it both ways but the wild card is the $75 core charge that is added to the $330 for the new one which I couldnt get back because its not the same cover. That puts it at $405 plus 8% sales tax in my county which is $32.04 for a total of $437.04. So after it was all done for me there would've been a $162.04 difference.
