2018 Buick Regal Sportback GS Pre-Purchase questions

The dealer is not offering a warranty, see post #46.
I think we are just trying to figure out where the additional $3-4,000 in "fees" came from.

They are claiming $1700 for "reconditioning and detailing", they added $2000 because I am not trading in a car either.
Was this additional dollar amounts on the window sticker or next to it or was this something they added when you started talking about purchasing the vehicle?

Added when I asked for "out the door pricing".

I have plans to go back in with a cashiers check in hand next week and hardball them for 28K with a warranty. It's sat on their lot for 3 months as of next week, they will be taking it to auction after next week if we decide not to buy, their words. I am pretty damn certain I can get the car for 28K, its got a brake recall out on it, its sat there for 3 months with no buyers, and I am offering 28K cash no bullshit, other wise they take it to auction and definitely take a loss.

They have already lost some money by it just sitting on their lot for 3 months.

Charging you a fee because you didn’t have a trade is greedy and asinine! I don’t care about terms, interest, trade-in, etc. Get the market value for the car and negotiate as if you’re paying cash. Once you’ve agreed on the price, then you can discuss a trade if you want. The value of your car is not dependent on what kinda “deal” they can make.

I can’t stand shady salesmen. The finance managers are even worse!

To be honest, this dealership is the worst in my area, I have been to 6 other local dealerships and all of them have been upfront about their fees, most are under $1000, some as low as $599. Hell the Lexus dealership in my area has a $999 dealer fee and that's it, they gave me an out the door price out on the lot.

Why this particular major dealership thinks its a good idea to do business the way they do is beyond me, but they are one of the largest in my area with 6 different dealerships in 3 different locations. Each dealership has 2 on their lots adjacent to each other, in each location.

Here's the fine print on the listing. Looks like they want $1k for not trading in and $1k for not financing through them. Something is not passing the sniff test.

Have seen a few dealers in MN try stuff like that. I just cross them off my list of dealers I will ever work with in the future.

I’ve never heard of such. I’m not paying to prop up their bottom line.

This is why I am going in with cash in hand (Cashiers Check), and telling them I want 28K out the door with a warranty. If they want to screw with me on it, I CAN say ok, I will trade in my 1992 Lexus LS400 and I want 27K out the damn door with a warranty.

I have a friend who sells cars at a local Ford dealership. On top of being a seller's market he says most people buying cars are more interested in getting approved for financing and what the monthly payment is more so than what the final purchase price is. Cash deal with no trade has less upside for dealer in current market. They want later model trade-ins because cars are hard to find and they get the margin reselling the car. Using their financing they get some kickback from the finance company.

I had similar issue negotiating the purchase of Cadillac CT6 for cash and no trade a few months ago though the seller didn't have hidden fees. They asked for an offer which I gave but would still not counter the offer for a car they had on their lot for 3 months. I didn't end up with the car, somebody else did.

Either I get the car, someone else gets the car, or it goes to auction. Either way I will end up in a new car, be that this Buick Regal GS, a Nissan Maxima SR/Platinum or a Mazda 6 Signature. Yeah I added the Mazda today, got a look at one, gonna test one out tomorrow but I am pretty sure I am gonna like it.

I almost had to walk away from buying my Regal because the dealer was giving me a hard time about using my own bank. The dealers rates weren't competitive though.

After you're done with your process you should name the dealer here.

Mazda 6 especially loaded Sig is a pretty sweet car, I don't think you could go wrong with it. Not as rare as a GS but you don't see them at every stop light either.

I have a friend who had a loaded Signature for a while and it beats the GS in interior quality hands down. I really don't know how Mazda makes money on them. All of the touch points are soft touch or suede and the open pore wood is a nice touch. The carpet floor mats are like an inch thick of and plush (and heavy). Driving dynamics are still plenty sporty for what it is. I could very easily live with a Mazda6.

I even noticed on the 360 degre photo they have a red buick cascada on there lot.

Since you guys have found the ad online I guess I can go ahead and just name the dealership, its Gettel Kia, Gettel Toyota owns them and they are right next door. Interestingly enough Gettel Kia is in the exact same spot as Gettel Toyota was for decades before they expanded.

Gettel used to be an excellent place to get a new or used car from, their moniker of "Gettel's Got It" is well known to long time locals. Back in 2016 when I was looking at getting a loan for a Camry XLE they gave me a bad ass offer, they wanted $24,250 out the door for a used 2014 Camry with 10K miles and it would come with a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty with 5 years bumper to bumper and 3 years service with 0 deductible. Even by todays standards that is an awesome deal, I really wanted that deal but was advised against it at the time, advice that turned out to be well worth it due to external factors that happened shortly after.

My point being this was not always the way this dealership did things, they used to give out awesome deals, it just seems over the last 2-3 years they really have gone downhill unfortunately. They still run their Toyotathon near the end of the year and 2 years ago they were gonna give me 6 grand for my LS400 in trade for a used Camry XSE.
