2018 Buick Regal Sportback GS Pre-Purchase questions

How do you figure that? The 2018 -2020 Regal Sportback in 4 Cyl config puts out the same Horsepower (250) but only 260 ft/lbs of Torque while weighing more than the Mazda 6 which puts out 320 ft/lbs of torque.

Data provided by Car and Driver...

Regal Sportback FWD - 5.6s 0-60 (9 speed)
Mazda 6 - is 6.1s 0-60 (6 speed)

The number of times these 2 specific vehicles find themselves at the front of the line at a stoplight where both drivers even care to point of seeing who is faster means both should buy lotto tickets that day.... LOL

The Mazda 6 Sig does reportedly have better overtaking times (by a very little) which is maybe a better metric for everyday driving while merging and passing..

That Mazda 6 is a pretty nice little car, especially what you get for the money. I think its the best bang for your buck, if you don't mind the simplicity of the interior. What I mean by the simplicity is that it does not have fancy lines like a Maxima does on the interior, its just basic and functional which is not a bad thing, its just not for those looking for flash and flare.

In all honesty, I find the Mazda 6 Signature to have a cabin that rivals an ES 350 in many ways, which is punching way above its weight.

Furthermore I am still very much interested in purchasing that Regal GS, my wife does not understand why I like it so much, but there is just something about it that gives me that sporty feeling with just enough luxury, and that trunk space is just nuts. It also has every single tech item that I care about in it.

Here is the data comparison of the 3 finalist designs I am looking at.

The reference was to the GS 6cyl as compared to the 4cyl Sportback.

I was just making my case for the 3 cars I am currently looking into, the 4 Cylinder Turbo Regal is slightly slower than the Mazda 6 Signature.

Here is an excellent website that I use to look at the fine details of cars: https://www.automobile-catalog.com/auta_cmp2.php
I didn’t mean to spark such a heated debate. I was just trying to have a little fun.

When I mentioned getting smoked by a 4-cylinder Regal, I deliberately left out the part about it being Trifecta tuned. This ain’t your grand pappy’s Regal! 😁

Well sheet, things just got more interesting......

Gettel Kia just sent that car off to Gettel Buick down in Charlotte County. I just spoke to their manager, he says its in the shop getting inspected, which means this will likely become a CPO. Thanks to you guys on here for screenshotting the previous price at $24,771, this gives me some nice leverage to work with. I also informed him of the active NHTSA Brake recall on the vehicle which makes it less desirable as its a safety issue, and that I was looking at 2 other cars which Gettel does not have on any of their lots.

We shall see how this dealership handles this, if they can get the price right, this might just be a done deal.

If possible, have em take a look at the rear diff. while they are at it since you mentioned hearing something back there on a previous test drive.

CPO takes bumper to bumper up to 62000 and power train to 100000. I’ve bought all 3 Regals as CPO.
I’ve driven a recent model Maxima which I thought was very ugly but I did like the interior and it drove well. I’ve never driven a Mazda 6 but did rent a Mazda 3 turbo a few years ago and it was a real pocket rocket.
The Regal GS is, in my opinion, a lot more car for the money. I tend to compare mine to Audis since I’ve owned them and have worked PT at an Audi dealership for 8 years. Audi wins in the interior and for being very nimble, but in total I’d give the edge to the GS. Add in prices and there is no comparison.
Good luck as “the saga continues “!!

The 2018/2019/2020 Regal GS are constantly misreported with a curb weight of 4270lbs. The actual curb weight is around 3800lbs. I think there was a thread about it in here.

I learned me something today...
I am going to go in and "finance" this car, 1/4 or 1/2 down, then long term for lower rates. I will then wait 7-10 days for the bank information to process, then call the bank and do a full payoff.

Still paying with cash without paying with cash, this means more negotiating power, while keeping it in my budget.

Yeah I just got off the phone with them. Yes it will be a CPO and it will have some warranty because of it, but it looks like I will be going with a Mazda 6 Signature or a Maxima SR/Platinum now due to the upside in warranty and mileage on those vehicles for the same price.

They were receptive to my offer, and they want a deposit to hold the car, no word back yet on if that deposit is refundable if I go with another car.

Still thinking of the Maxima?
hm...looks like it is joining us with the Regal.

I should also say I am TRYING to see if I can work out a deal to get a Hyundai Sonata N-Line, no cooled seats 🙁 but a really impressive 2.5L Turbocharged I4 engine punching out a solid 290HP and 311 ft/Lbs of Torque, it's faster than the Regal GS.

Not according to Car and Driver. 5.6 for the Regal and 6.1 for the Mazda.

Car and driver has a misprint then, according to other sources the 4 Cyl 2.0L Turbo pushes the car 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, not 5.6.

Also at 5.6 seconds that would make the 4 Cyl Turbo FASTER than the GS with the 3.6L LGX V6 engine which puts out 60 more horsepower and 22 more ft/lbs of torque.

I think it has been reported in more than one publication that the 2.0 turbo has a slightly faster 0-100 kph (0-60 mph) than the 3.6 V6. The 2.0 turbo produces its max torque at a much lower RPM than the 3.6 V6 which gives it more punch down low making it quicker than the V6 at slower speeds. All the extra horsepower in the V6 is at the top end of the rev range.

I'm not saying the 5.6 seconds figure is correct just that the 2.0 turbo has been reported to be slightly quicker than the 3.6 V6
