USB Port stopped working

Hello! I recently purchased a used 2017 Buick LaCrosse. I absolutely love it! However, my USB drive is becoming a problem. Sometimes it works and all my music plays seamlessly. Sometimes it won't recognize it at all no matter how many times unplug it and plug it back in. Help!!!!
Me too ! Any answer to USB failing to recognize iPhone and thus Apple Car Play?

My USB connection suddenly failed to recognize my iPhone … worked for years without a hitch but yesterday it suddenly stopped. Cables all check out OK … I’ve tried several. HELP! prisondeacon@aol.com

Anybody have an answer to this? I recently purchased a 2018 Regal Essence, love it! But middle console USB ports wont detect iPhone to run CarPlay. Back seat USB ports work. I've changed different cables and used two different iphones with no luck. Could it be a fuse?

I am on here for the exact same issue with my Envision. The dealer wants $110 to run a diagnostic although the car is fully under warranty. So I also am hoping someone has a easy fix for both of us!

Has anybody solved this problem? My 2016 was working great then all of a sudden nothing, no charging no CarPlay. Used two phone that both previously worked, two different cords. The cig lighter accessory in the console charges with an adapter so power is not the issues. All other radio capabilities work (don’t use OnStar so I don’t know about that). Buick customer service had me do a reset and it did nothing the. Said it has to go to the dealer. Uggg. I see the same with others on here but haven’t seen anyone post that it was resolved.

I cancelled my appointment for the diagnostic. Will reschedule and comment on here once resolved one way or another. Very odd though that so many of us are having troubles with the USB ports

Hey my USB port in my center console on my 2011 Buick Regal stopped working as well

Update - I took the car to the dealership. They said it needed a new interface module (the one with the USB and Aux port in the center console). They gave me the part number and I soon found out it was the wrong number. I researched it and found the correct part - ordered from GM. I got the part in and replaced it with no change - still no power or recognition of the phone. Cords I tried plugging into the cig lighter outlet charged the phone but no indication of anything in the USB ports.

Ugh, I am back to where I started and out the $75 for the interface.

On further research, the USB data lines appear to connect to the MOST network but it isn't clear where the power comes from. My thinking is that if there is no power, the interface module is also not getting power and therefore the USB data won't work. Any ideas on how the power gets to the interface? IS it fused?

Oh, and I am also out the $100 the dealer charged me for the diagnosis.

Bumping this thread...

One of my center console ports on my 2018 Regal stopped working(data), and I had been using the other since then. I connected my phone to use Android Auto for directions/traffic, and on the drive home it stopped working(still charges phone). I also have a usb thumb drive that I use for my music library and that no longer works, telling me it is not a cable issue.

Yes what is the problem stop telling us to contact you just put the answer why the USB says error on it and the dash flashes

Update - took it to the dealer and paid $115 for diagnosis. They said I needed a new USB interface and quoted a single usb part. Mine has dual usb. I located the correct part and purchased it for $75. Put the new interface in and no change - still two dead USB ports with no charging.

Took it back to the dealer and told them the diagnosis was incorrect and they needed to fix it or give me back the $115.

Was told it was working and went to pick it up. When I asked what the did, I was told nothing. It was working when they plugged in their phones to test. Sure enough when I got the car, my iPhone 13 worked fine. I used CarPlay without an issue for several months the. It went back to not working, not charging.

Seems like something was done and I (we) are not being told. With all of the people having this issue, it seems like a group complaint is in order. What good is this technology if GM can’t make it work!

Hi I’m having a similar issue. I replaced the port and it seemed to charge for a second but then nothing. What could it be. Also where the heck is the fuse for it. Definitely not properly labeled. Help

Hi. I have struggled with my apple carplay not recognizing my device including providing power through the port. I took it to the dealer who wrongly suggested I needed a new interface in the console. I brought it back after that didn’t work and they fixed it saying nothing was wrong. It went out again after a couple of months and I was just living with it until a friend suggested I remove the battery cable and leave it disconnected for a while. I did this and left it off for 30minutes. When I reconnected it and tried the port it worked perfectly and has ever since.

I know there are some software updates that need to be applied and there are ways to check that but if it is up to date and you run into the car not recognizing any phone and changing the cable doesn’t work, try the battery option. It is a hard reset and worked for me.

Update - I disconnected the battery and let the car sit for 30 minutes and after reconnecting, the car recognized all my phones and worked as it was supposed to. Doing this must have caused a hard reset. Before this the ports were dead - no power.

Hello all. I encountered this issue with my 2018 Buick Encore just yesterday where I could not charge my phone with both USB ports nor did it connect to Android Auto. I tried a different phone and 2 cables and nothing worked.

After looking through this thread and doing a little more digging online, I found that Chevy Volts also encountered similar issues and people solved it by reseating the "Infotainment" fuse.

I tried it on my car (Fuse #29 for 2018 Buick Encore), just pulling it out and putting it back in and it worked! Both USB ports charge and detect my phone now. Hopefully this is a permanent fix and works for you guys too!

(Some people in the Volt forum think the reset of the fuse "reboots the infotainment system and allows the USB communications to refresh anew")

Gotta love a simple fix! I'll have to give this a try. Thanks!

Thanks all for this thread. First post!!

Just got a 2019 Enclave and neither USB port charges phones or recognizes thumb drives. Did troubleshooting with two phones, two memory sticks (one FAT32 one NTFS , both with m4a files per Infotainment System Manual) and two cables. Going back for warranty!!!

My USB port issue is it's not reading all the songs. I have over 2,300 songs and it only reads 80 of them. The USB is being read fine in my other vehicle and all computers. This is one of the main reasons I bought the car. I love the convenience of that feature. I have a 2011 CXS as well.
Note that, the car only reads mp3, if your audios are m4a or a different extension it won't read them. I just rename the files from *.m4a to *.mp3 and they work fine
