Disable Automatic Stop/Start

Okay, I got something I need to run by you all.

A month ago I bought a 2019 GS and I've loved it so far. Here is the thing, the ASS is already disabled. Apparently it was disabled by the previous owner. I completely forgot about the ASS when I test drove it, and when i finally got it home I realized there was a very long USB cable coiled up in the glove compartment that ran behind the dash and is plugged into something behind there. I contacted TRIFECTA and gave them my VIN and they said there aren't any purchases associated with my car. Since I bought it, the ASS only came on during one 15 minute drive, and not even at all intersections/stops. That was a week ago and has not come on since. As for reverse lights, I believe they are stock, although the reverse camera seems almost too bright at night, and sometimes the parking grid will just sometimes disappear while I'm backing up.
Basically, I want to know what was installed or deactivated on this car. I was planning on disabling the ASS anyway, but I'm not sure if I want any other tune installed.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

When the auto start stop engaged was it after you remote started? If so maybe it has an Smart Stop Start device installed on the hood switch. You could check under the front plastic panel under the hood to see if one of the smart stop start devices is installed.

Otherwise, you might want to have the battery checked out to make sure it isn't weak. That's another reason for start stop not working.

I almost always remote start, either with the key fob or the buick app through onstar.
I will check to see if i have a smart stop device, everything looked stock to me, but i will take that plastic panel off.
the battery seems to be fine, it shows the 14.2V while running

what else could that USB cable going to the back of dashboard be used for?

Is your HUD working? Back of the cluster has cable going to HUD. Would you mind sharing picture?
P.S.Glad to see another Regal in MA. One of these days we will organize New England meet.

Yea my HUD is working fine, I can share a picture when I pick up the car. (its at a local caddy dealership getting those rocker panel moldings fixed). what do you want a picture of specifically?

Yea, I've only seen a few regal sportbacks and tourX and only 1 other GS in MA

Picture of the cable and where it is going. What dealer is that?
I haven`t seen GS yet(I boght the car in 2019). But I've seen GSi Insignia in Europe.

okay i will take a picture of that. and a Cadillac Dealership because they honor the warranty and gave me a sweet loaner for the time being haha

This comment stuck out to me. Why was it important to say it was a 15 min drive?

This that a long drive for you? If so, then I'd go back to the the low battery theory. Have you taken the vehicle on a ~1 hour drive which would allow the battery to get a good charge?

That would be a better indicator that your alternator is working.

What does the voltage read first thing in the morning when NOT running (when vehicle in service mode or "on" position)?

I'm not confident it's a disabler since the stop start activated once. But...like suggested, check for one under the hood and also your OBD2 port to see if you have a disabler plugged into that.

I consider a 15 minute drive as quick, I have driven it to other states since I got it, each time multiple hour drives.

I will get a multimeter and check out the battery when I get the car back!

I was stumped about the back up lines disappearing when I bought my car and thought for sure there was a glitch.... I came to realize that the lines disappear if one of the reverse sensors pick up something!
Where I had been parking at home always had a fence off to one side - apparently this was the trigger because at my new home there are no obstructions and the lines are there, every time.

If batt is charging at 14.2 constantly that's not usual, at least on mine it will charge 14 or so then drop down to 12.5+-13 after while then go back and forth on a long drive.

Just a guess on the USB but maybe PO had a camera or radars detector wired in.

Alright, got the car back today. There is no smart stop under the hood, and that USB cable goes to something else, it was very cleverly wired all the way under the glove box, up the door frame in the weather stripping, up the pillar and onto the windshield to this thing. I will check the battery once I get my hands on a multimeter.1000020295.webp1000020290.webp1000020291.webp1000020292.webp

yea i just did some googling and it is from a viofo dash camera
I’m in RI and I only know of one other GS in this state. I put the Smart Stop Start module under the hood when I bought the car 3.5 years ago. No issues with that or the battery since.

Okay I'm back,
The battery is the original battery, and two battery tests show that it's lower charge than it should be. I bought a battery charger and we will see what happens.

Also, while looking at the battery, I found what seems to be a drain hose? Just chilling next to the battery. Doesn't seem right to me, thoughts?Pics attached.

Also sorry if this thread is evolving into something else!

If you have a sunroof it might be one of the drain hoses. It should vent the water outside the vehicle. Check to see if there is an external port in the body panel that it plugs in to.

This car of yours is turning into quite the puzzle. 🤔
