2018 Regal Sportback
Wondering if anyone has dealt with this issue- I have a 2018 Regal Sportback with 69k miles and am currently dealing with an annoying vibration issue that I can't quite diagnose. The vibration starts to be noticeable around 40 mph and continues to get worse when speeds increase (never goes away). It's not a super harsh vibration but it's annoying enough that I need to get it fixed. I've gotten an alignment and had all my wheels freshly balanced but the vibration persists. I also had a tire rotation and the vibration feel didn't change in any way. Also this is not due to the foam insert in the tires because I previously had that issue and the dealership gave me a fresh set of tire about 50k miles ago that don't have the foam insert. The vibration doesn't only occur during braking so I don't believe it's a warped rotor. Also, my tires appear to be in good condition- there isn't any uneven wear visible. I haven't had the rims checked for roundness but they appear to be good. Could it be a bad CV axle? Looking for advise because my first trip to the dealership was unsuccessful.. they just balanced the tires and gave it back to me. Thanks!

If you're cruzing at highway speeds with the wobble, does the wobble persist if you pop the car into neutral and coast?

Could be bad cv joints and or wheel hub bearings. Try and find a shop that does wheel on car balancing. That may pick of the issue.

what could the wobble going away while coasting mean?

I have a similar issue arournd 35K miles on original tires. I had a wobble around 70mph, but not below and not above. Now that I'm paying attention, I feel like it's starting at lower speeds around 60mph and then going away. I notice it more during acceleration.

When i'm driving around town (below 60mph), which is most of my usual driving. I don't notice anything...

What do you think? CV joints?

I just read this string: Vibration

I wasn't aware of the foam delamination issue. I'm wondering about how the car will feel with 1 tire delaminating compared to 2 or more also coming off. I have to believe the vibrations would be off the charts bad...

Putting in neutral helps eliminate the drivetrain as a reason for the shaking when there's no load on it.

I had 2 tires with foam separation and a third starting. It felt something like this....

My first thought was tire balancing. Second thought was possibly a separated belt. I would have your balancing checked by a different shop. Static balancing with the wheels removed can be tricky, especially if it calls for four or five ounces. It could be something as simple as placing the weights in two rows as opposed to a single row.

Well, I had a blowout flat . So I'm replacing all 4 tires. They were at 6/32, so they still had some tread left, but I'd need to buy at least 2. So a complete new set... The tire shop will look for delamination, too. And I'll get balancing and an alignment. Will report back. Fingers crossed.

I don’t know why I was thinking these were relatively new tires and I thought you just had them balanced. With 35K miles they could easily be out of balance. The vibration usually becomes evident at around 55-60mph and it may go away at speeds over 75mph.

Do you notice any cupping in the treads?

Nope. No noticeable cupping, but you've described the vibration symptoms. BUT, I was getting vibrations at 70mph+ going away at 75mph. It's only been in the past few weeks the vibrations were coming at 55-60mph...

Sucks having to shell out that $$$ for tires when you’re really not expecting it. Been there. As much as I love this car, it has cost me a fortune in tires. I mean eating tires. Before the Sportback, I can’t remember the last time I had a flat. Soon as I get a car with no spare tire, I’m suddenly plagued by a never ending series of flats, blowouts, nails, screws. I pulled a tire off to plug two nail holes… there’s five, count ‘em. One, two, three, four, five… nails in the tire! I have pictures.

Oh the irony! Kinda like Superman ending up in a wheelchair. 😳

What I didn't say was that when I loaded the tire into the cargo area, I looked at the sad blown-out sidewall -- and the noticed a screw stuck in in the tread the same tire!

I don’t know if there’s some strange magnetic field created by this car or what. I had a slow leak that needed air every 10 days and I was just gonna ride it out. I was about to start working again after being out for a year and my paper was low, so I planned to get tires with my 2nd check. That’s when I got another nail and was having to air it up every two days. That’s when I pulled it off and found the five nails and I just had to stop and reflect for a moment. The number of chances and coincidences it would take for this to happen is truly remarkable.

Just seeing this, but lots of threads on this issue, and it looks like you have really eliminated a lot of the theories. I think it something with the CV joint as it's worse as you accelerate, and if the vehicle is just started out .vs. been on the road for and hour or so.

A follow up after the tire replacement, I've put about 500 miles on them now: highway (70-85+mph) and city driving. No vibration issues at any speed.

HOWEVER, while I talked about possible delamination with the tire shop -- I didn't specifically ask for them to take pictures or have a look when they replaced them:banghead:. And the old tires were already disposed of when I picked the car up. So I don't have any way of knowing if was delamination or what I suspect may have more likely been an alignment issue.

So, gentle reader, no conclusive findings on the cause but my vibrations problems seem to be a thing of the past...

On my 2004 Lesabre, I had a really bad vibration above 60mph, strong enough to spill coffee when in the cup holder. I found a broken sway bar link on the right side. Replaced both left and right sway bar links. Flunked Inspection pointed out a bad wheel bearing on the front right. I replaced that and the lower arm with ball joint. The vibration was reduced but still present. I had all four tires rebalanced and now it has changed to a subtle resonance at 70mph. I will need four new tires come fall. I suspect it will go away then.
