Nearly every write-up and how-to involving the bolts that secure the lower intake manifold to the heads say to use a thread locker, typically blue loctite, on the bolts. According to Permatex's technical data sheet on their blue threadlocker, it withstands temperatures up to 300F. That seems a little close to the operating temperatures of an engine.

Will blue loctite hold those bolts good enough or should I use something else? I found some loctite 246 on amazon, but I have a hard time believing that with the increased temperature resistance, the bolts will still be able to be removed with hand tools if the need arises.

You only need thread sealant on the bolts that go through a coolant passage. 😉

Which, if any, of the lower intake (or upper intake) bolts go through a coolant passage?

Only on the lower. You'll know when you pull them out if the lower hasn't been done before. When I did my water pump only some of the bolts had thread sealer....same goes for the lower intake.

So just thread sealer not both?
I would use a high temp thread sealer. Part of the reason is to prevent corrosion into the engine and other is to help lock the fasteners
