20" Cascada rims on a GS

Got the wheels installed on Thursday and washed her up today. Im pretty happy with the results!

My only regret is getting the 255 wide tires. Frankly, 245's would have been better as the BFG Comp 2 A/S have a fairly chunky sidewall/shoulder design. They're only 5mm wider per side but the extra width is visible. Also, a word to the wise if anyone else wants to try this..... You absolutely need 5mm wheel spacers minimum to fit around the Brembos. I had the shop first try and install these without the spacers and sure enough, they didn't fit. Luckily, I bought the set JackGS referred me to from US wheel adapters which fit like a glove. There is about 2mm gap between the wheel and the caliper with the spacer in place.

I bought a full set of 4 - 5mm spacers but I'm only running them on the 2 fronts in these pictures. The shop installed them on all 4 wheels and frankly the rear wheels stuck out too far with the 255's so I took em off the rears. It just didn't look right to me. The extra width in the front looks surprisingly good though.

I did a bunch of online research and I can't find any reports of trouble from running a small 5mm spacer on only the fronts. If anyone knows of problems (AWD?), please let me know before its too late!

I think 1 of my old Conti tires suffered from the foam separation problem that was referenced in another thread as the car had a slight vibration at highway speeds before. Fortunately, that is gone now. It could have also just been an issue with balancing though too. In terms of ride quality/harshness, I am not noticing any difference yet but I only have 100 miles or so on the new tires. In terms of grip, these seem better around corners than the contis. If I took a corner a bit too fast before you could definitely feel them working and hear squeeling if the window was open.

Again, in only 100 miles its tough to draw any definitive conclusions

I am surprised you need spacers to clear the Brembos. The Cascada wheels have a ET41 offset. The original wheels have a ET40 offset. 1 mm shouldn't make a difference. Did you actually observe the tech on your attempt to install the Cascada wheels in the front?

Yeah it was due to the shape of the spokes on the new rims. The stocks have the back sides cleared out to fit the brembos

Just put 20 inch Cascada wheels on my 2019 GS. No spacer was needed to clear the calipers.

Not sure the difference but I needed them. Anyways post some pics, I'd like to see one in a color other than white on these rims also. Good choice!

Mine is white like yours.

Be careful out there kids. Bent a rim a few days ago after a meeting with a pothole 🙁

Know what you mean. Hit one yesterday. Far as I can tell rims are not damaged. Will recheck alignment, as I purchased the free continuos alignment when I bought my Goodyear Eagles. Can your wheel be repaired?

Pot holes more prevalent in the winter and sometimes unavoidable. Can you get the wheel repaired?
Doubtful since its on the outside but I'm going to try, it'll be a spare if so. I went and bought a new rim.

Were longer bolts needed? Anyone have a direct link to purchase the 5mm wheel spacers? Preferably looking for black but a good quality silver one would work. Are they visible?

If you use stock Cascadia wheels with out spacers you can use the stock lug nuts. I have the 9mm H and R spacers and they came with special lug nuts that have a sleeve that inserts into the mounting holes in the spacer to keep the wheel and spacer centric.

I could not confidently advise anyone to run any thickness of spacer without using longer studs or the special lug nut @chambe mentioned. With a spacer, there's simply not enough thread engagement.

I installed 5mm spacers and could only get 5 full turns of the lug nut after torquing to spec. I contacted the manufacturer of the spacer and asked them what their thoughts were on the matter. Their response was as follows:

"Might look into "ET Style lug nuts". It's either ET Style Lug Nuts, or install longer studs into the car to handle the spacer. Todays rule of thumb on a 12mm stud would be a minimum of 7-8 full turns in order to be safe."

Considering the liability aspect, interpret that however you'd like...

Some run the 5mm spacers and regular lug nuts without problems but I didn't want to "F around and find out" when it came to what held the wheels on my car. At the end of the day, 5mm is nothing... 0.197" or just a hair over 3/16ths. It's just not worth taking that amount of thread engagement away for an unnoticeable visual difference.

Just to make it clear, do not use Cascada wheels unless you use a 9mm spacer. Sorry, my prior post may have mislead you into thinking you could use them without spacers. If you use Cascada wheels with the 9mm spacers you will need ET Lug nuts.

Yeah, exactly. There hasn't been much of a rush for me since the stock wheels and tires only have 13k miles on them.

These are the wheels I bought: Boxes From Germany: A GS Modification Thread. These have an offset of 49mm so I will definitely need to throw some spacers on in order to get them back to stock or flush with the fender. I threw them on tonight and they fit just fine with ~5mm of clearance between the back face of the spokes and the Brembos. The GS wheels have about the same clearance.

I think the Cascada wheels will clear just fine. They were also used on the Astra which had Brembos on certain trims. You won't know until you fit them up but I don't expect you'll have any issues.
