180 speedo may not be unrealistic, with tune to remove speed limiter.

... as the LTG Turbo engine could stay together being into to max boost for the minutes it would take to achieve those speeds.

I wouldn't worry about that. 250hp from 2.0 liters isn't that much these days, and presumably GM designed the motor to run WOT for sustained periods, for example, when pulling a trailer up a long grade.

FWIW, the limiting factor for my turbo Outback XT has been the cooling system. Especially on hot days, the temp needle climbs towards the red before the motor shows any signs of giving up.

I'm not C&D, so I really don't know how they tested the TourX.
I have read other articles saying TourX is limited (governed) to 130mph.
How do you reconcile V rated tires (149MPH) on a car that can achieve 155mph?
That is why I questioned the 155mph. I suspect the aerodynamic TourX could hit 155 on a huge banked oval, ungoverned, as long as the LTG Turbo engine could stay together being into to max boost for the minutes it would take to achieve those speeds.
GM Powertrain use to run their engines and I am sure they still do,for 24 hours at WOT. I saw pictures of engines on test stands with exhaustt manifolds were literally glowing redhot.!
Max boost for a few minutes, is like a day in the park, compared to how they test engines at GM Powertrain.

I stumbled upon an Autoblog review of the Opel Insignia Grand Sport that may shed some light on this thread. At the very least, it's another data point.

I doubt GM told them it was horsepower limited to 145 in 8th.
Guessing they said mfg estimate of 155 speeds, on advise of legal folks due to tire limitations.

I often tell young guys, "no matter how fast your car goes, YOU CANT OUTRUN MR. MOTOROLA".

Funny how I have to explain what that means.

I agree you should never try to outrun the cops.
Guess you have never lived in a state with no speed limit?

The problem is that as you explore the mid 100's and climbing, that wall of air you're pushing gets harder and harder to push- especially in a car that isn't particularly powerful to begin with. The internet is littered with claims of ridiculously high top speeds in cars that couldn't achieve those speeds if tossed from an airplane. Just this morning I had to listen to a stock V6 Camaro owner claiming he did 175mph in a 5th gen that came with 18's- so it was limited to about 120- then regaled me with tales of his IROC Camaro that went over 200 with just a tune and his awesomeness behind the wheel.

With only .26 drag it is very slippery for a wagon, and is same as Nissan GT-R.
Not sure why people refuse to believe it is capable of 160 mph speeds when various sources verify that.
PS It goes without saying you will need a higher performing red needled car for those speeds.

I was behind a sedan version today on the Autobahn. We were doing 200km/h and when it opened up it easily walked away from me. Since that is 125mph I would say it is safe to say it wasn't close to being tapped out the way it accelerated.

Guessing you have white needled car, that will only do 130 and has no guts after100 mph?

So glad I got one of the red needled cars!

Actually the rental is a Ford SMax. It wasn't too good past 200, in some section I was able to get 210 but I think I would need a really long, preferably downhill stretch to do much better.

The Regal in front of me was too far to see which cluster. My TourX at home is a red needle version.

Ooooo that is not surprising for a Ford.

+125mph, not bad for a rental. Too many people bench racing here. Ever notice the scenery goes by rather quickly at 130mph or so? Are you really going to make use of the red needle cars?

Just knowing my car will run away instead of barely walking away from your average van, gives the higher performance version the feel of a Safari not an Estate Wagon. Plus it is more Pontiac like, with the red accented instruments....
But do not worry I am not going to go crazy and disrespect Buick by putting Pontiac badging on it.
Except maybe Safari script on the back...just kidding kinda. Does look like a Pontiac Safari from the side.20190402_104333.jpg
Not to mention, I feel much better then I did when people were saying how much better the white needled new version was, and feeling like I got screwed... and not in a good way..

Is there actually any definitive proof that there is any true performance or governor differences between the red needle and white needle Regals? I have also mentioned it here: If your lucky enough to have red needle car...

Are there TRULY any performance differences or are they all aesthetic?

I haven't found any data to prove or disprove your claims @L J. If it's true, awesome! People can seek out the "better performing" red needle Regals if they are wanting to jump into a new or used one. Making these claims without proof is misleading for anyone browsing the forum.

From the roadtests and sworn testinmony on this forum, I would say yes.. not sure if anyone but me is telling the truth though.

I do not know the reason for the 180mph speedometer scale, but per below it is not for MPH/kph reasons

0-60 without flashing the torque converter or spooling the turbo requires 7-1/2 second.
Practical top speed is 130 mph, and you will need about a mile plus of straight, unless you have the Bonneville salt flats at your disposal and wish to risk burning a valve or piston. There are a few interstates in the US that resemble the autobahn, however your state police and insurance company would disagree. There is only so much a production 2 liter engine with out extra cooling and lubrication is capable of.
155 mph governed top speed may be incorrect if tires are not speed rated for +155 mph. Lawyer make sure of that, thankfully.
My sort of fast car develops about 600 RWHP, i.e. 400 more than a stock TourX has for WHP. For you average weight car to have any pick-up over 100 mph, you need around 500hp.
With that kind of oomph, 130 mph comes up quick, 140 is no sweat, like accelerating for 70-80 mph, in a Regal/Tourx. The acceleration pace slows down after 140, and I have no clue what happens much after that, nor do I care to find out. Unless you are in a hyper-car or a at least a super-car that is very aerodynamic, and actually built to operate at these speeds this holds true. Also the brakes on a Regal are good for 1-2 slow downs from 120 or so. Then they are then done and so are you.
Don't try this at home.
P..S. Trifecta told me they will have a tune available this summer. Example results of similar dyno chart attached. You might be able to buy a very nice wagon in America with an America engine that with just a tune could run 14 flat @ 100 mph in the 1/4 mile. What more could the mid middle class want?

Edit:
I did a little research, Seems Like V rated tires, so TourX must be governed to 149MPH or less. Plenty

The OEM Continental ProContact Tx tires are rated "meh", at best from reading the Tire Rack reviews.
Apparently the quieting belt inside the tires do not stay put.
I suggest replacing OEM tires with Extreme Contact Sports. They are soft and barely a Max Performance Summer tire, but it is an excellent high performance premium Grand Touring tire, perfect for the likes of the TourX. Extreme Contact Sports are a summer tire and will only last 30-35 thousand miles, but they will be happy miles.. Get snow tires for the winter.

Yeah I noticed those meh ratings on Tire Rack also. Haven't owned my TourX long enough to form what I'd consider a fair opinion of them yet. FWIW, I've run Conti Extreme Sport DWS 06 on my S2K for a few thousand miles now, and am liking them enough to consider for when I replace the TourX stockers. More of an all season with a performance bent. Makes me feel like I'm Evel Knievel...without the wrecks, hopefully! 😎
