Buick Ownership
Riviera
I have had an issue with as long as I've owned my Riviera, whenever I go to accelerate onto the highway or from a relatively low speed to a higher speed, it seems like my engine bogs down. If I floor it, my engine revs up but it seems to lose speed instead of gaining it. And if i let back off, the transmission seems to either upshift or downshift and begins to accelerate slowly. I have checked my transmission fluid, and i seem to have no issue with it, since it is full and has nice red fluid. The car does produce a barely audible high pitched whining noise though when accelerating. I have the Olds 5.0 V8 w/ Overdrive. Any suggestions would be of great help! thank you!

Since you have had this problem since you have owned it, have you ever had a shop try to determine the cause?

I would start with a fuel pressure check. Bogging down like that is frequently fuel related. The fuel pump may be inadequate. The new fuel can affect the diaphragm and deteriorate it.

Fuel pumps are cheap for this engine and easy to replace.

I would not suspect the transmission unless you think it is slipping. If you floor it, the transmission will downshift, and it may sound like it is revving up, but lack of fuel will make it lay down.
