2002 Lesabre randomly shuts off while driving - no codes (to cause this)

The 1970 Lesabre has the same body style as my 1969 Beaumont convertible, except mine has the Pontiac grille. Plus I only have the lowly 307 V8 with the even lowlier 2-speed powerglide transmission.
Beaumont was the Chevelle equivalent where as the Parisienne or Laurentian would have been the sister to the LeSabre. Canadian Pontiacs used Chevy drivetrains.

Funny that you mentioned the Pontiac Parisienne, that brings back old memories. I once owned one back in '84. That was one beautiful looking & riding car. They don't make cars like that anymore!

if you are to check an iridum, you should very very veyr very very carefully use a wire gauge, not a stepped gauge, and carefully check the opening and im saying use a table and chair and to carefully. you can be the one regretting shoving it into a step gauge or you can trust ngk to produce to the spec and then trust ac delco to do remotely any QC and then all the hands it passed through till you cheaper than ruining 6 plugs and buying more lol.

Not comforting, correct, but be careful is the key word
If i remember corectly, the instructions said they were gapped for my motor and to just install them. I've got an old style in now and it did no better.

I might as well replace the icm since i got one here in the box.

I've put over 300 mi on it without a stall. Funny, when i removed the egr block off plate I get the po401.

But like i said way early, I;ve had that for years.

Thanks for all the help.

It has been a trip. I am glad you are surviving your ordeal.
I wish I had all this support last year when my high mileage 93 Lesabre kept stalling and rusting and trying to pull me into the grave with it. It is now soup cans.

removing the plate came with a remove cable right? iff it didnt your computer had diagnostics and history before that that may effect it so i would ignore that atm

Is the EGR oem or a quality replacement?

If I had to guess, it's as old as the car. - It looked good, the pintle moved easily and was very clean. But I have
never changed it.😳

Below is the hardest thing i did to get it into good shape after buying it from the lady next door. She still had the 2nd Key Fob in it's original bag from the dealership.

live data from scan tool would be a helpful thing too, because low egr flow could mean that Its thinking you should be seeing more flow based on what its position, temps, tp etc are, and if you have something else going on like a lean fuel-add because of o2 reading, you would want to look for a exhaust leak kinda thing. but yes if you replace get gud

It's hard to fix someones car over the internet. I sometimes make a thread that i think may be helpfull to someone else.

This thread is not a very good ....."OK i Found The Problem and This is What it was". Maybe someone will get some value from it.

I still plan to update it (this thread) with what i think caused and fixed the issue, if i can ever confidently say it's fixed for good. As it stands I have an issue with occasional po306 each time i drive it, but haven't had time to do much. It's been weird to say the least.

Thinking out loud before i eat and go to bed....would injector #6 be the last in line?

I still have not replaced the ICM. No need to answer just thinking out loud

I still can't speak martian.....ha ha

I'm embarrased i made my last post...... Haven't had time to do anything. Just had my work truck towed home the other day. The distributor gears were as worn as I've ever seen. 300 thousand miles will do it. She is running great. - Soon im gonna be able to say that about my LeSabre!

what engine is this? a roller cam engine with a distributor gear for a flat tappet i know is a common issue(hardened vs not hardened)
was it installe to the right depth?

That's why it's best practice to install a softer metal distributor gear (bronze) to prevent wearing out the hardended or billet cam gear. Much easier to replace a distributor gear vs a cam gear

Finally replaced the ICM on the Buick. It's running without shutting off but I am still getting the p0401 code, and the engine seems to have a slight misfire. No misfire code yet but I did get the p0306 several times. (see above)
I don't know what fixed the random shut off. It absolutely would die at stops and even going down the road. You can see all the parts I've thrown at it.....oh well I'll keep trying. It's much better but not right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the picture above --(the distributor was installed well over 200 thousand miles ago in my1995 S10 with V6 262 TBI ) it finally quit spinning as i drove home one day. AAA saved me. I'd never had a chance to use them before. Glad i had a membership. The distributor gears are softer than the cam. It's obviously been going bad for some time. I had forgotten how well my little truck runs now that I've got the new distributor and put a bit more effort to set the timing properly.

One more thing on finding TDC when working alone...."TDC whistle" The lady at Wallmart thought i was a nut when i told her I was buying a squeaky ball for my truck, not my dog. Ha Ha.

OK so i moved the coil pak down one space and got a random po304. So i obviously have/had a bad coilpack that has crept into the equation. Bought a lifetime delco from autozone and replaced it. I also switched the MAF sensor again and am getting a po101. Gonna go back with the MAF that never caused a code, one i took from pullapart.
I also was getting the po401. Removed the throttle body again to look if maybe the tube going up into the upper intake was dirty. I was very clean. I also remember they made a mod to this upper intake due to heat damage around the egr stem that takes the exhaust up into the intake. It looked like new.
I put thee block off plate under the egr valve and that obviously is no good for this car as i heard a ping or two taking off under slight load.

I may go ahead a purchase an egr valve. I've never had one go bad. Had to clean a few....

OK thats it for now.
