2004 rough shift into 1st and vibration ... TCC??

I have a 98 Riviera with the 4T65HD transmission. My experience is Dexron 6 is hands down the best Dexron yet. Been using it for the last 2 or 3 fluid changes which I have done every 20,000 miles since I bought the car in 2004. I now have close to 200,000 miles on the original transmission and it shifts perfectly. Fluid changes are the ticket. All Dexron is backwards compatible.

thank you!!! I am going to do my moms fluid with this and a transgo as preventative maintenance!!!!!
i didn’t get acdelco vi but I got supertech vi for mine.

What’s everyone’s opinion on trans filters? Triple edge sells Allomatic which seems to be the best made here.
napa has Balkamp as their premium.

ACdelco is Chinese now. Is it good?

Should I just get anything and see how the transgo feels on a possibly bad trans?

what about ATP, duralast, or wix?

I still haven’t solved the shift issue. Maybe a cheap filter with the transgo and new fluid and change filter after a few thousand miles of transgo solves problem? I was going to go with wix since it’s local and has a gasket. I don’t know if the gasket is factory.

The 0-Ring around the filter is OEM and will usually stick in the housing when removing the filter. That needs to be carefully removed without scratching the surface and a new one applied to the filter before installation. Wix is all you need for a trans filter!

thank you for confirming this for me! This will be my first trans filter ever. But they don’t seem complicated. Just more messy without a drain hole 😆 I wanted to upgrade to a drain hole installed pan. But I’m not going to if this doesn’t fix the problem 🙁

What magnet upgrade is best?? Where sourced and where to place and how many total? I’ve read 2 in the pan and one on the Filter so far

I ordered these magnets!!!

4 of these K&J Magnetics: BY0X02SH

10 of these K&J Magnetics: D82SH

should be enough for mine and moms lesabre lol
Be very careful with these magnet mods you guys are doing. Magnets can very Bradley interrupt with the solinoids in the transmission. Be very careful where you place them and how many you use. Personally, I don't use them. No real need. Doing trans services and inspections is key. I could see replacing the factory magnet for one of the upgraded magnets would be could but imo too many magnets could interfere with all the solinoids in there.

I thought the same thing. But GM recommends the magnets.
I was only going to replace the factory with the 1 or 2 new.

And just one on the filter like on the TSB .

Well, I am gravity draining the transmission!!! Let’s hope a TransGo and filter will prolong a rebuild!!!

also, I noticed today that after all day city driving and some highway, that the trans will start shifting hard and fast after a regular day of driving...

Yup! Transgo kit time for sure!

yessir! 🙂 the fluid is draining very slowly!! I just want to reduce the mess as much as possible!! Haha!

Any idea of the rough fast shifts after a long day of driving? Is it just heat? Hopefully the lubegard will reduce temp :/

The problem I believe is heat and the poorly made accumulator parts. In the kit you get spacers and stiffer springs which tighten and quickin shift pattern. 90% of the time, the kit along with the filter and fluid AND addition of the lubegard takes care of it. I had the exact symptoms your having and mine now shifts quick and smooth.

Well, I put in the transgo, new filter, lubegard, and valvoline maxlife. The hesitation to go into 1st in D to s worse, and the slip in 1st is worse. 🙁 I’m guessing it just needs rebuilt 🙁 my guess is the input clutch apply piston. 🙁

now the question is... do I attempt the rebuild my self or sell the car for parts??? This is my first time inside a transmission. I want to rebuild it, but a decent offer for the whole car wouldn’t bother me either. But how much is a lesabre with a bad trans worth??Hahaha!!!!

Sorry to hear that. You sure you put the springs and spacers in correctly? The accumulator pistons, did you press them all the way back in? Did u have any problems along the way with anything? You sure the 3 black accumulator tubes were properly set back in the accumulator? Idk, just asking. If a trans rebuild is needed, it depends on how many miles on car and how much you like it and what condition its in. My sabre, oh yeah, I'd get a remanufactured trans for sure.

I felt like I put everything back together right. It was slipping into 1st and hesitating at stops and starts before the kit. So I figured the new fluid probably reduced friction Or something. Reduced pressure for the input clutch piston is my guess. But I am noooo expert. Not even a novice. Lol.
I thought the tubes went in ok. I had to wiggle the actuator a bit to get the bolts back in to thread perfect. But it seemed the 3 tubes were ok.
and I got the car at auction. So I’ve driven it for a few hundred miles maybe. But it rides nice and fits all the kids and gets better mileage than the trailblazer. I bought it for my mom to tear up and for parts for her 04 with only 50k on it. Then I liked that it was comfortable and held all the kids and was safe.

I'm sorry the transgo didn't work for you. I was really hoping it would. Now it's just deciding what to do next. If the car is in good shape and doesn't have alot of miles on it, rebuild or reman trans time. Imo. What do you think?

the body is in good shape. The driver door panel is coming off and the center console lid is off. And the seats have some cigarette burns. A/c is extraordinarily cold. Lol. Suspension feels nice and the engine feels strong. 125k on it. And just a few songs from hail and age. But I think this was garaged most it’s life.

How much is a reman trans? Do remans have updated parts that are weak points?

I want to do a rebuild. But I’m scared 😂 YouTube makes everything seem easy.
