2011 Lacrosse Trunk Mysteriously Opens

I am having the same issue. My fob sits on the counter overnight and the trunk pops up in my garage without any intervention. It just started doing this. It also randomly pops up when I pull a door to open it. I have never had a problem with my trunk in 7 years. Now it is popping up sporadically, without intervention, or reason.

Did you try a new battry ?

My complaint regarding the sensitivity of the trunk button on the key fob for the 2011 Buick Lacrosse is valid. GM has addressed this same issue in other vehicles for many years now. They have gone so far as to put switches in trunks to prevent the key fob from opening it to significant delays on the key fob switch itself. Someone dropped the ball on this one. If it hasn't happened to you yet does not mean that it won't. Hopefully you will not have anything valuable in the trunk and/or will it be raining. This is a $33,000.00 automobile - not a $200.00 Ipod. I don't think my expectations are too high. Others have the same valid complaint as I.
I have the same issue with my 2012 LaCrosse. I've been told that I'm accidentally pressing the trunk button on the fob but that is not the case. I've had this vehicle for over 5 years without this issue until the past 3-4 months and it's getting worse. Buick dealership wants $140 just to diagnose it and $250 for a new fob. Very frustrating that something this stupid is gonna cost hundreds of dollars. I feel ur pain and am still looking for a solution. I cannot open the trunk manually and it randomly opens on it's own. Please help.

I am sorry to hear about your experiences but and glad to you are working with your local dealer towards resolution. I have noticed your concern with the fix. Please keep me posted on your progress with the dealer as well if this seems to resolve the concern. Thank you.

Tricia, GM Customer Service.
I also started having this problem back in October of 2018 and noticed that also. When my car is locked the trunk does not open but when left unlocked it sporadically opens by itself. My concern is the cost to get this repaired as my warranty is expired. shouldn't this be a recall issue as it could be a safety concern because of the pull tag in the trunk

I agree it is contant, i even have fob hanging on a belt loop and it still occurs.

Had same problem after car wash. It is NOT the key fob fixed it for now by taking trunk liner down and unplugged the rear trunk switch. Ordered new switch put in later.

I have locked my 2011 Lacrosse, went inside, and later came out to find my trunk wide open on several occasions. Luckily it has not been raining nor have I had anything valuable in it when this has happened. I carried it to the dealer today and they ordered a trunk release switch for it. I don't see how this switch would cause the trunk to open by itself when the car is locked as depressing this switch (above the license plate) when the car is locked will not open the trunk. The remote does not have a delay on it to open the trunk when the button is depressed but it is stiff so it doesn't seem likely that the problem is that the button is being accidently depressed. I still think that that the button on the remote should have at least a 2 second delay (holding the button in for 2 seconds) to open the trunk. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
We have the same problem

Same but nothing is touching the remote when it does it I can just sit here and it pops open on its own. Very aggravating

YES!

I too have a 2011 Lacrosse and have the same issue. I have found that it doesn't happen much when the weather is warm, but when the temperature drops, the trunk pops open. Every morning, I open the door and immediately press the door lock button on the key fob or else the trunk pops up when I close the door. I often have to stop along the road to close the trunk. Any updates on a solution?

In my case, the problem was decidedly the key fob. Last spring, I was finding the trunk spontaneously open several times a week, and I eventually noticed a crack on the hinge part of the fob I was carrying, which prompted me to dig out an uncut, un-programmed generic fob I had on hand on hand, and have it cut. I programmed it myself, using the damaged fob, and the trunk problem stopped immediately. The buttons on the new fob were much stiffer. A short time later, just because I can't leave things well enough alone, I tore the damaged fob apart and transferred the key blade and circuit board from it into a generic replacement fob case. As with the generic fob, the buttons are stiffer and there have been no further spontaneous trunk openings in the almost eight months I've been carrying it in my pocket. I still have one unmolested original fob, but I don't use it.

Can confirm, pocket activation of the truck button is possible. In my case, common. Not happy with the fob design. Not happy with no truck button in the cab. Not happy with the tempermental trunk lid button. Grrr... Still haven't thought of a fix I like.

I am experiencing it. I've had it happen to me while driving, with the car locked and unlocked, and with the fob in my pocket and without it in my pocket. It only seems to occur after I've opened the trunk(with fob and lid switch). I finally got fed up with it and took the switch apart to get to the root of the problem. Water and moisture have rusted it. The silver trim piece that has the trunk switch and license plate lights on it isn't water tight. I recently moved to Western Washington and I believe it's due to the moisture the car is now experiencing. I've replaced switch and so far haven't had problems. We will see how long the switch lasts in the PNW rain.
