I have a 2013 Buick Verano Base 179,000 miles 2.4L.

Timing chain was making a little noise so I had an appointment to have it changed and the day before I was to bring it in it started to jerk back and forth and kind of lunge back and forth at stop lights in gear with foot on brake but would smooth out when put in park or neutral. After about 15 seconds acting up at stop lights it would then go into limp mode, no power, stabilartack warning, with engine light.
Codes were p228d,p0089,p0019 and p0014.

Had the timing chain and tensioner replaced they also replaced the fuel pressure regulator and the camshaft solenoids in the car ran smooth drove great until about an hour and a half of driving later it started doing the jerking back and forth thing at a stoplight again. Brought the car back and they check the solenoids with an ohmmeter and said they were good and warrantied out the fuel pressure regulator.

I picked up the car left the shop it was started doing it again and gave me a p0191 code so they replaced the fuel pump on the motor not the one with the tank. Clear the codes and I put 400 miles on the car that day without one issue.
Fast forward the next day and 20 minutes of driving I hit a stoplight and it's surging back and forth again p228d and p0089 codes.

I need some help here because this is becoming very expensive and very time-consuming.

Having the same codes as before would suggest the same problem. What did the shop say regarding that it seems to have come back? Another option is to find another service shop at this point.

The shop was wondering about the camshaft actuators but said it is unlikely being it runs and drives smooth but only acts up at a stop light in drive or reverse but comes out of it when in park or neutral. The shop I use is well known in the area and I have used them for years I know the owner and he communicates with dealerships on things like this and they said they had no ideas just start changing a few simple things first. I find it very odd that they changed out that front fuel pump and I did not have a single issue for about four hundred miles and within those four hundred miles I continuously what stop and see if it would reproduce the symptom and it would not. There is another shop in town that has a similar good reputation and I am thinking of going there to see what they think. I just hate spending time and money at a shop to have another shop try to figure it out. The original Mechanic Shop I have been going to is not charging me anything extra so far as far as labor cost, I am only paying for parts and only paying what the shop is charged for the parts.

Have you found what the cause was and if so what was done to fix it. I'm having same troubles
Nope. So far they replaced timing chain, timing chain tensioner, timing chain actuators, both solenoids, fuel pump regulator, front fuel pump , fuel pump sensor in the rear near tank. Still having the same problem and it's becoming worse. My mechanic brought it into the dealership and they contacted GM HQ who thought maybe there were chunks of the tensioner clogging up oil passageways? To be honest I'm over $3,000 and a shitload of time wasted on this with no answers and still no drivable car. I'm getting really pissed off and have contacted an attorney friend of my parents and have given him the receipts and my correspondence with the mechanic. He's suggesting that I give the shop one more chance to get this right and if they don't get it right to take them to small claims court or civil court if I remember correctly. He thinks I would have a judgment in my favor no problem but it would probably be a little time consuming. I've known this mechanic for over 20 years and his shop has a very good reputation.

Any luck mine Just began doing the exact same the other day aswell.

Got rid of the car. Was told there might be shavings from tensioner in oil passages. Got tired of spending $ and time. Too bad because I really liked that car.

From April to now I hope you have found out what was causing this issue as my Verano just started this the other day aswell. It jerks a little then it'll stop but theb jerks like a mad bull, only thing I can do is like you said shift to neutral.

Nope they never found out what was wrong with the car. It had been in and out of the shop and dealership replacing sensors, solenoids, fuel pumps rails and just about anything else they could think of. We looked into wiring and I even inquired about transmission issues causing it and after hearing the price to dig into that I said the heck with it and finally after almost $4000 wasted I deemed it a Complete Money Pit. That is and will be the last GM product I'm going to own which is too bad because I've always owned GM or Jeep vehicles.

My 2014 verano is having the same issue. When I add a little transmission fluid it stops. I think I need to change out the transmission fluid and filter. Not sure if anyone else has any advice.

I might address the timing codes first.

If p228d and p0089 continue, some ideas:

- This video shows high pressure fuel sensor (hidden under intake manifold between cylinders 2 and 3). FYI - There is another low pressure sensor that might be by the driver's side wheel.

- The high pressure fuel pumps in the 2.4 seem to fail enough that they should be tested. I think there was a redesign. The cam follower should be changed at the same time even though they don't seem to fail that often. Ours did not throw a code but oil smelled of fuel so we changed it out with OEM.

Those codes (p228d/p0089) usually point back to a fuel pressure issue, even after changing the pump and regulator. Sometimes it’s not the parts but wiring or a weak ground causing bad signals. I’d double-check the fuel rail sensor wiring/connector and also look at the high-pressure pump seals. A shop with a good fuel pressure scan tool can watch live data at idle and tell you if it’s dropping out
