2014 Buick LaCrosse Dash theme problem (some setting reset automatically)

Is there an identifier for this update like a version number or a TSB? I previously had the car in for service with a software glitch and the dealer denies there is a software update available.

Instrument Cluster Not Displaying Radio or Phone Data
January 14, 2014
The Instrument Panel Cluster on some 2014 Lacrosse models built before December 19, 2013 and 2014 Regal models built before January 21, 2014 may not display radio or phone data. (Fig. 15) An Audio Off message may be displayed on the Driver Information Center and the right audio steering wheel controls may be inoperative. In addition, the instrument cluster may intermittently display “Sport” mode and other personalization features may return to the factory default setting.

Fig 15

These instrument cluster conditions may be the result of a reset condition within the Instrument Panel Cluster.

New Instrument Panel Cluster software has been released to address these conditions. Use TIS2Web to update the Instrument Panel Cluster calibrations and confirm proper operation.

TIP: The updated software only applies to vehicles built before the listed build dates if audio is still present, the radio controls still function, and no current infotainment DTCs are set.

Okay, just got back from a different dealership. They said they don't track software updates, but any changes that may have been made are included in any reflash that is performed, so I am scheduled to have my car lobotomized on Thursday.

Oh, and my build date is Oct 2013, so this sounds promising.

They are to use the TIS2Web for the Instrument Cluster Update. There is a software update for the Infotainment alone. I know a little about the reflash but I am not certain that it will cover the instrument cluster issue.
My car was also built in Oct. 2013. When I paired my phone at purchased none of my contacts down loaded, I had to do it manually. By chance service had to do a software update for another issue. After the update I had to not only pair my phone but reenter my radio presets. Much to my surprised this time when I paired my phone, all of my contacts were down loaded and I was also able to use SIRI which I did not have access to until the software update to the Infotainment.
I guess you will just have to wait and see if the reflash works but my guess is that they will need to perform the specific update for the instrument cluster.

I haven't had trouble with my contacts downloading, but my phone isn't an Apple. I have a Windows Phone and Cortana (Siri imitator) has always worked okay. Hopefully I won't lose anything with this update. Thanks for all your help.

Have you tried using the Siri APP on the Infotainment Screen?

I don't know of a Siri App. Do you mean the microphone icon that is on the intellilink homepage? That works great with my Windows phone. I can do hands free texting and web searches. I was surprised how well it works. There is suppose to be some kind of new Siri support in the 2015 lacrosse. Not sure what that does, but since I don't have Siri I guess I am not missing anything by having a 2014 without it.

The Icon that looks like a microphone is exactly what I am speaking of. On the 2014 you can excess Siri, unfortunately on some 2014 as with mine the software update had to be installed before I could access it but my Microphone App was not lit indicating the Icon was active.
In that you can text and do web searches I would say it is accessible but if your phone does not support Siri than that explains why you are unable to access it in the car.
I believe Buick Tech Support walked my service department through the software update for the instrument Cluster and I am almost certain now, that they did the same with a reflash that was done for an issue with XM.

I don't know what you mean. Siri is a function of Apple phones. My phone is a Windows phone. I don't have, and will never have, Siri. But, I can talk to my phone and it talks back just like an Apple phone user can talk to their phones and Siri responds. My phone works perfectly using the phone interface in the car for calling, accessing contacts, texting, etc. That interface is suppose to work with any phone that has voice capabilities. I don't know why your Siri wouldn't work until you got the software update. My voice activation and contacts work great and I have not had any software updates yet. It sounds like Buicks Intellilink dropped the ball on supporting Apple products in their initial software release. Kinda odd considering Apple's huge market share.

How did the reflash go?

So far, so good. They did a software update on the IPC and they said an update on the USB was also needed, so they did both. I showed them this thread and they used the info to check for updates., and those led them to more needed updates, and they relearned the TPMS because it was reporting pressures on the wrong wheels. I didn't lose any intellilink settings or contacts. I only lost my DIC settings, so I put them back the way I wanted them and all is well, so far. I like this dealer better than the previous one. They covered the floor and seats. The last one didn't and got grease on my seats and console. Thanks for your help.

It all sounds promising. IMO a good dealership and service department makes all the difference in the world. I am glad that I could be of help.

I did notice one other change/benefit from this software update. Originally my HUD would reset to the default of displaying speed only each time the car was started. Now it has become sticky so the way I had it set when I turn off the car is still there the next time I start it. It wasn't a problem for me before, but I sure like it better now.

That drives up the wall that the HUD resets itself. Can't wait for my first service to have the update done.

My car is going in soon for this update and can you tell me how long it took to do the update?

Hello All, My 2014 LaCrosse is having the exact same problem with the theme display and speed warning limit reset. I am going to the dealer in the morning for a recall so I figure I will mention it while I'm there. I should have asked sooner, but does anyone have more info on the redesigned wire harness? Maybe a part number or TSB? I just wanted to be ready when they say they've never seen that problem before 🙂 Thanks!!

I hope this will help you out.

I am having this same problem and shared the above post with the Buick service department. They could not find a TSB or anything in TIS2Web to help. My care was built in September 2013. Anyone have a TSB number or anything the service department can lookup?
