2018 Buick Regal Sportback GS Pre-Purchase questions

This just popped up on Autotrader, I am intrigued but I have heard a few negative things about the LaCrosse series. What are your thoughts on this car?

Maybe you will get more first hand experience responses with one if you post question over in the Lacrosse forum.

Just figured I would ask here to see if anyone else had/has an experience owning one. Will post over there as well.

LaCrosse series. What are your thoughts on this car?

My neighbor let me drive his LaCrosse for about 15 min. Engine had nice power, heads up display was neat, but seats were not supportive and had little to no side bolstering. Oh, and I HATE the fake ventiports.

Overall it was a nice vehicle but it wouldn't make my short list. It reminded me of an old person's car when compared to the Regal. (Sorry current LaCrosse owners... I'm sure you're all young!)

Lacrosse is on same platform and same engine as the Impala. I've driven Impalas a few times as rental cars and loved them. If you're seriously thinking about the Lacrosse, look at the Impala. Probably cheaper.

I believe the Impala continued to use the old Epsilon II platform, while the Malibu, Regal, and LaCrosse moved to the updated E2XX platform. The LaCrosse uses the LWB version of E2XX and is designated P2XX. I think they are still similar to the Impala, but have more in common with our Regals, which is great!

Almost all of GM's crossovers utilize a version of our E2XX platform too, since everyone here loves them so much.

This article says the Impala and Lacrosse share the same platform.

Correct, the platform was shared between the tenth generation (2014-2020) Impala and last generation LaCrosse (2010-2016). From the article you shared:

"Like all tenth-generation units of the Chevrolet Impala, the 2019 Impala continues to ride on a long-wheelbase variant of the GM Epsilon II platform called Super Epsilon. The architecture is shared with the second-generation Buick LaCrosse and first-generation Cadillac XTS. A short wheelbase of the Epsilon architecture underpinned the eighth-generation Chevrolet Malibu and fifth-generation Buick Regal."

The newest, third generation, LaCrosse moved to the E2XX platform and the Impala continued to ride out the Epsilon II platform until retirement.

From what I've read the e2xx changes were relatively minor. Just saying they should be fairly similar in how the 2 cars drive.

The weight reduction shall be impactful to the driving behavior. 😉

The Impala weighs about 100 pounds more. Like having my kid in the backseat.

I test drove a Lacrosse two years ago. A perfectly nice car but without any soul. In my opinion very bland.

I had the same experience. The LaCrosse was the first car I test drove last year. I didn’t even know the Regal was still around at that point and I hadn’t seen the 2018-2020 models. The LaCrosse was roomy for sure and the exterior styling was attractive, but there was nothing about it that would make me look forward to driving it.

It’s not unusual for me to take the Regal for a spin at 3am when I’m not sleeping well. It’s almost like the Regal wants me to drive it just as much as I want to drive it.
