99 buick lesabre stalls while driving

I have a 99 lesabre limited. While driving the car died on me. I tried to restart the car and it would not start. I waited about 15 minutes and the car started up. I talked to a friend who is a mechanic and he said he thought i was the fuel pump. So I replaced the fuel pump, screen and fuel filter. The car ran fine for about two weeks and is now doing the same thhing. It was running fine then just died. I t started back up after about 10 minutes drove for about a mile then died. I let it sit for 10 more minutes and it started and I was able to make it home. I looked on the internet and solutions were cam sensor, crank sensor, MAF senor. Help

The cam sensor, or mass air flow will not cause the symptoms you described, but the crank position sensor, or ignition control module could. Do you have any codes?

No I do not have any codes. I replaced the engine in November '09 and have the old ignition control module. Should I install it or is there a test I can do to see if it is the crank position sensor?

Since you already have a known good module, sure, swap it in (takes, what, all of 10 minutes?).

If this doesn't do it, I'd find a shop that is willing to work with you on diagnosing it properly - they can have your car idling while working on another vehicle, and if it quits, then they can attach a scantool which can be used to determine if the crank sensor or other sensors are not working.

I have seen crank sensors on a couple of cars have this exact same failure mode so it's not a bad guess either, if you want to go that route before taking it to a shop. If you want to speed up the diagnostic process, you can use a heat gun to warm up the questionable part which should help to bring on the failure condition.

May not apply in your case but, FWIW, my '04 was doing strange shifting, and would occasionally stall at a stop. I initially feared the tranny was in trouble. Turns out it was the MAF sensor. No codes were set, but this can be monitored if you have a full capable scanner

I replaced the ignition control module and so far so good.

Going through same thing right now. Code came up if I remember it was PO-101, looked it up and did some digging and it's was told buy a Buick mechanic it was the pensioner. If its bad and the belt is slipping it wont run. Let it sit a few minutes the battery rejuvenates to run 5-10 minutes,or until the battery wears down.🙂
