Anyone able to change from ACC to traditional cruise by holding the cancel cruise button?

Please keep this thread on topic. The question is specific to 2018 Regal's with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). Has anyone been able to change from ACC to traditional cruise by holding the cancel cruise button like the Getting to know your 2018 TourX manual states?

Don't want to turn this into a slam the manual thread, just want to get the question answered.
 
May 2018 build. Although I have not tried switching from ACC to CC, I do find one unusual thing. If ACC is still switched on when I shut ignition off, it will still be on when I restart engine. (Not sure what Owners Manual says about it).
 
The ACC stays on when I restart my 2014 Regal, so it's not unusual.

Thanks. My other car, and other recent cars with ACC would switch off. When car restarted, I had to switch ACC on.

Nice to know there is nothing wrong.

Some newer GM vehicles can switch between ACC and regular cruise control, by a long press on the CC cancel button... Unfortunately, I don't think that is true in the Regal.
 
I've also confirmed that holding down cancel doesn't work even though the "getting started" guide said it should.

This was one of my top gripes about the car so when I first saw this thread I was excited, but now disappointed again. Most of the time I'm fine with it, but if there is more traffic congestion it gets in the way since even the furthest gap setting is pretty generous. Gotta love when someone suddenly merges in front of you too close and it slams on the brakes.

I'd say over 75% of my driving (highway and streets) is with cruise control. I'm a bit OCD about maintaining a specific speed, plus traffic would flow so much better if everyone else did.
 
I've only used Cruise Control once in my car so far... My trips are pretty short usually. Don't get the chance to use it much.

I hope I'm not wandering too far off topic, but it's a big disappointment that this can't be turned off, but a big relief that there's no ACC on the "lesser" TourXes, which is what I'm shopping for...

The ACC can't be disabled on the Regal. All you have to do is keep the Buick logo on the grille free of snow/ice/dirt and the ACC will work just fine.

I've had my Regal 4 years now and I have never had the ACC not function and I live in the snow belt. It seems people are making a big deal out of this for nothing.

We are not talking about completely disabling the ACC. We are talking about switching between basic cruise control with no gap following distance and full ACC with the gap following distance.

Something like this might only require a simple software update so I would suggest that everyone let their dealer know and maybe GM will be able to add in that function.

Anyone here with a 2019 where it also isn't working?

Keeping the sensor clean of debris allows the acc to function, which means you don't have to disable the acc, so it is related to this discussion. That's what is know as a solution to the problem.

My acc works just fine in the rain, there must be something wrong with your car. Or perhaps the sensor is too sensitive.

I have had a few times where it does not "work fine" in the rain, especially when there is a lot of spray from other vehicles. That's why this thread exists. Keeping the sensor clean is not a "solution" to the issue in this thread, as that does not disable the adaptive function of the cruise control.
 
Since there's no way to disable the adaptive function of the cruise control on the Regal, let us know when you come up with a better solution to keep it functioning in adverse weather conditions.

In all actuality, the cruise control shouldn't be used when the road conditions are poor. Relying on nanny electronic controls isn't always safe; many self driving cars have crashed lately.

So the first trip using the ACC half way through the trip it cut and wouldn't work the remainder of the trip. Throughout the remainder of the trip my wife was looking for how to get to regular cruise in the manuals. I was a little depressed when nothing we tried worked. I just find it had to believe you cannot defeat ACC. Frustrating!!

Do not use Adaptive Cruise Control when:
On winding and hilly roads or when the sensors are blocked by snow, ice, or dirt. The system may not detect a vehicle ahead. Keep the entire front of the vehicle clean.
Visibility is low, such as in fog, rain, or snow conditions. Adaptive Cruise Control performance is limited under these conditions.
On slippery roads where fast changes in tire traction can cause excessive wheel slip.

When I first got the car, I did not like ACC (I think it was trust issues). I did try switching to standard cruise mode as directed by the user manual, but it simply does not allow for it. I have since gotten used to it and use it all the time without much fuss. Lane hoppers will still jump in front of you regardless (unless you start tailgating the car in front of you). I just take comfort knowing that they got in front ONLY because I allowed it.

But I can confirm that you cannot toggle between ACC and traditional CC.
