i have looked online and for our GS i cant find the specification for the ATF , ive read GM recommends changing it every 60 thousand miles buts many people prefer to change it at 30 thousand and I would agree

I am doing a turbo upgrade form zzp and im closing in at 14,000 miles but having an AUTOMATIC i want to protect this tranny as best I can so i want to replace the ATF around the same time i swap turbo

Amsoils site doesn't even recommend a ATF just OEM

anyone know the specs? the zzp turbo is going to probably bring me upwards to 400 tq, i want to keep my tranny in its best shape

I'm going to the dealer tomorrow I can ask my service guy, he owns a 13 GS.

Mr. Mayor,

If you don't hit me with a rep for this post........... I will ruin the ending to every movie you go to, and all your favorite TV shows.

With that being said, I will now commence to some "SOLID" Buick Street Team shit!

GM P/N -19256039: Alternative code: 10-4062 .......... *using my

machine* ,,, I found you can use Valvoline MaxLife ATF or Vavoline Import MV ATF.

SO, we found you some ATF fluids, now how the hell do you drain the old "glittery" shit and fill it up to the right level with the "new-new"? (I'm guessing you don't have a dipstick.... Just a fill-cap that probably says something like "see dealer" or "Non-serviceable")

Holla at 'cha boy,,,, I even gave you page 18-153 (you'll need this to DIY).

OH snap, and page 18-9

SO 4.3 - 6.2 Quarts for a "drain & Fill". I would buy 7 or 8 Quarts just to play it safe.

(I know you have a 2013 GS) #JustMyExperiences,,,, Auto transmissions have a lot of nooks and crannies. I would fill it until (the warm) fluid drips out of the OIL LEVEL PLUG (1). Put the plug back in... Drive around the block,,,, shift into reverse a few times. Drive back home and let it cool down,,, and check the OIL LEVEL PLUG (1) again,,, You're probably going to have to add more ATF.

(I want a pic of your trans fluid fill cap)

*edit* added TAGS. C'mon people!

The AW-1 must be synthetic as Valoline Maxlife ATF is and I have used in my 2004 Saab 9-5 with AW 5-speed with good results. It is a little firm when shifting into drive when cold but has worked great for high heat towing 3,500 lbs that I have down. The recommended fluid for AW 5-speed is Toyota fluid or Mobil 3309, both are non-synthetic.

The 2009 Saab 9-5 uses the same fluid as the GS.

Interesting that it doesn't spec a fluid change for the Aisin auto.

Also one needs to remember the auto changes during the years. In '11 all turbo cars got the Aisin. Someone check which, but in either M/Y '12 or '13 the regular turbos switched to the 6T40 and only the GS got the Aisin.

@Niz - Those are not straight cuts on the left side. *tisk tisk* As always, you pull through with the service man. Is that the $200 one? I should probably invest in that.

I can't give you rep because I give you too much :icon:

That's cool, I was able to 😉

Has anyone tried any of the boutique fluids like amsoil or redline in their GS or turbo?

Has anyone tried any of the boutique fluids like amsoil or redline in their GS or turbo?

i've used both; the redline D6 seems to be missing the correct friction modifiers for both the aisin and delphi transmissions

amsoil's ATL seems to work okay and the fluid analysis from blackstone labs seems to suggest that it does not cause any more friction material wear than stock

amsoil's ATF will cause some intermittently harsh shifts; i have not tried the redline D4

Why would anyone use anything but the GM stuff?

Edit: Oh wait, your that EFR turbo guy right? Are you putting that power from a B2 frame EFR through an automatic? How is that slushbox holding up?

Spoke to trifecta couple weeks ago figured id update it here

Hi Danny,

I recently got an email from the AMSOIL rep that did the original fluid analysis with me on the Aisin transmission and from what at least the email says, the above linked AMSOIL transmission fluids now have the correct friction pack modifiers for the Aisin 6-speed found in the Buick Regal GS.

I've got some on order and will perform a test with one of our development platforms when the drum arrives.

Thanks,

Mitchell@TRIFECTA

OHSO 4.3 - 6.2 Quarts for a "drain & Fill". I would buy 7 or 8 Quarts just to play it

Maybe someone can answer this . where it sais "navigate to the scan tool brake position sensor learn command by selecting the following"
3.1module diagnostics
3.2engine control module
3.3 configuration reset functions

is this information accessed thru somewhere in the car or a scan tool ? and if it is a scan tool is it one of those upscale code readers used to delete codes too?
for my turbo install im not messing around with a single detail im printing out all the sheets and giving them to my mechanic so i want to ensure i know everything

wait a minute - Niz all those specs you gave me were for the 6T30/6T40/6T45

none of those transmissions are in the GS so those fluid capacities are not accurate since there for a different transmission we have a Aisin AF40

The same transmission is used on the Opel Astra, that'll help you find out capacity, checking etc.

I talked to my service guy today at the dealer and he said that the AT in the GS is 7.1 Quarts.
