Buick Ownership
Buick Electra 225 ‘64 (6.6L Wildcat 445)
Hey everyone,

I’ve got a Buick Electra 225(1964 with the 6.6L Wildcat 445) and I am having some chargin issues. I changed the alternator for a Delco Remy remanufactured one as well as the regulator for a Solid State Converted one. Once installed, they were both working fine, but then 2 days later the AMP light kept coming on when the vehicle is stationary and when I check the battery voltage it does not exceed 12V, even if I give it a little bit of gas. The Delcotron(alternator) was inside the return window so I returned it and got a new one for free. I installed it today and the battery is still not charging. I am kinda desperate. Any help would be appreciated

It,s been awhile for me and I still have my fox valley reg jumper tool. But anyway pull the plug off the regulator and jump the red and F "field" terminal on the plug and see if it starts charging. The field I think is a blue wire but may change with different years. If it charges then the regulator is bad or not making contact or the wrong one

thanks, will try it out

would you want to use a more modern alternator on your vehicle? If so, buy a charge wire and a AD230 alternator in a matching case setup(is your alt have two holes at 12 and 6?) it is much easier, simpler, lasts longer, has better features, and its still GM tech. if you want to use a pre-10si (10dn?) for originality you of course can but its antiquated and even a lot of people would at least upgrade to a Systems Integrated alternator(10si, 12si)
