Markets do strange things. Sometimes they respond to demand and sometimes they create it. I think one of the worst chapters in GM's history was Roger Smith. That whole era with the diesels that weren't worked out, rolling out CCC (Computer Command Control) that blinked way too easily, the V8-6-4, and more strange stuff was really bad for the company and they reacted a little late with a great 3800 V6, high value Chevy V6s, the Intrigue and the Aurora, and some cars showing they were starting to get their heads screwed on correctly.
You have a lot of steamed coupe and sedan drivers right now who are not happy with GM. I am in that fold.
I either read or heard that an automaker in continuous operation is either going to make a part or a non-OEM outfit will make a part for 25 years. I have gone to the junkyard after about 10 years for the cars I've had because the original part or non-OEM part was too expensive. I once picked up a $35 blower motor for my '92 Regal and put it in there - some tortuous maneuvers and a lot of patience to get everything out of the way, put it in its place, and then button it all up.
I'm now looking for sections of dashboard with lights and they're not easy to find. This is after 15 years.
That tells me that I either heard wrong, misunderstood, or am dreaming.
