I don't have any pictures right now, but I'm sure you guys will know what im talking about.

You know how there are the rubber strips all along the sides of the car, and then a gray strip on the bumpers above the stainless (or plastic for you suckers, 😀 ) On my RMS, the gray strip in the front bumper has the gray coming off, it seems like it is painted on. And it is black underneath. Has anyone else had this problem/what did you do to fix it?

The rest of the rubber stuff was gone before I got the car. Otherwise I might just paint it all black like the wagons had. I think it would look bad if the front and rear bumper had a black stripe on them and the rest of the car didnt.

The leading edge of the front bumper cover that you are referring to has several layers. The base is a porous yellow foam like material with a smooth black filler coating that has a painted surface to match your bumper cover. The paint and black coating over the yellow foam doesn't always wear well with sun exposure, scrapes, etc. It might be worth stopping by a body shop and getting a quote for having it repaired with body filler where needed, sanded, and repainted with paint that has a flex agent in it. The teal color sedan that I looked at before buying my red car had been parked nose first in a carport for an extended period and the rear bumper cover was having the same problems but more advanced. The black filler coat that covers the yellow foam like material was worn away in several spots. Judging from the exploded parts diagram, the leading edge is molded to the bumper cover.

All the roadmasters I have looked at have had this issue. I've thought about spraying mine the original grey, but It doesn't bother me enough to fix it 😀

Haha, it bothers me since I like taking it to the local shows. But I feel embarrassed now that the front bumper is trashed. It looks good from farther away though 😀

The strips on the '95 Limited sedan your Father bought from me were painted Black. I thought it looked much better than the boring gray!

Swap your mods onto his car and trade 😉

the bumper I got for the rear of my car awhile ago has that detoriation(sp) I wanted the body shop to just paint the whole bumper DCM, but he didn't think anything he would do to that area would last long before it cracked or something, so he left it the ugly stuff. No big deal for me.

You can see it on the right hand side

My car must be one of the few that doesnt have that problem. My mom's car, which is 4 years newer does have the problem, tho.. Personally, I would paint them black(I've thought of doing it to my car), and if you can locate some side trim and paint it black, too like the wagons, that would look badass. Either way, Its still a beautiful car, pimpin 88, but then again i'm biased😀

This car was in another thread, but it looks to me like the bumper trim was painted black and it is missing the driver side trim, if you want an idea of how it would look..

Hi there! New here. For all of you who may have problems keeping your gray side moldings on the chrome trim, I may have found the solution. I had the same problem with my last Roadmaster. So I bought some Sika-flex. You find it at hardware stores. It's kinda like a polyurethane adhesive. After I used it to the moldings, they never broke loose again! Here's a link of the product:
