I had to school(or teach) as they say in Texas one if the bigger Buick dealers about my 2019 Encore with the bigger 155 HP motor and cylinder shut off. The parts man that had been there for years insisted the Encore only had one size engine. I went there for my first free oil change. I asked him about the oil filter for my sport touring Encore. He pulled the oil filter from the back and I told him it wasn't the correct one. He insisted the car had one filter and one size motor. He checked his diagrams again and guess what? He looked shocked and ended up eating crow. Buick discontinued the bigger motor because they said no one bought it. Before I purchased the Encore I called around DFW asking specifically for the one with the bigger motor. Apparently there was only three people that knew about it. Me, my wife and the salesman. It was only a $250 option. Only one dealership had them in stock and they had two. we got a great deal on it and love it. That extra horse power makes a difference. I have caught the four of us going 90 without realizing it.Jeff, WIX makes most of the NAPA filters... And, WIX does not currently make an oil filter for the housings with the dark brown cap (UFI). If your car had the filter with a check valve (PF2263G) then putting the Hengst filter without a check valve in can cause serious engine damage.
As far as I know, the only filter supplier other than GM right now for the UFI housing is FRAM. Their part number is: CH12246 . Plenty of manufacturers are making the filter without a check valve that fits the Hengst housing.
I have seen several posts where folks checked behind some dealerships after oil changes and their UFI housings had the wrong filter (without check valve) installed. Again if you are worried, I would print the GM Tech Note above and take it with you...
The direct injection engine was available at a number of dealers in the Wooster area when I was shopping for a 2019 Encore. AWD, in-dash Navigation and the Bose HD radio were also musts. 2019 was sooner than I had planned on trading in my 2014 Toyota Regular Cab, but the direct injection engine was going to be deleted in 2020. Also note that the direct injection engine with AWD gets better gas mileage than the standard engine with FWD.I had to school(or teach) as they say in Texas one if the bigger Buick dealers about my 2019 Encore with the bigger 155 HP motor and cylinder shut off.
