According to the 2012 Regal user's manual, when the 'delayed locking' feature is configured 'ON,' the doors should automatically lock when walking away from the car that is equipped with the passive locks. My new Regal will not work this way and the dealer seems to be confused. The doors will automatically unlock when approaching the locked car. Can any one confirm the correct passive lock behavior. Thanks.

sounds like you're talking about two different things.

1. car does or does not lock when you walk away.

2. car unlocks as you get closer. (shouldnt this be what happens when you get close?)

which is it?

mine only locks when i lock it with the fob or push the button on the handle. it only unlocks when i get close with the fob in my pocket and pull up on a door handle or trunk and even then it takes 1 second to unlock. you have to pull up and wait then you feel and hear the pop then the door opens.

Not so, we went through this on another thread. The delay is after you lock the door. It doesn't lock automatically while walking away.

You can find the following information on page 5-38 of your owner's manual:

Delayed Door Lock
When on, this feature will delay the locking of the doors until five seconds after the last door is closed. You will hear three chimes to signal delayed locking is in use. Press either the power door lock button on the RKE transmitter twice to override the delayed locking feature and immediately lock all of the doors. Press the Multifunction knob when Delayed Door Lock is highlighted to select On or Off. Press BACK to return to the last menu.

Let me know if you have any additional questions. Thank you.

Thanks for all your helpful responses. I have concluded that the delayed locking feature simply does not work on my new car. First, verified that the configuration was correct, i.e., ON. Then:
1. Opened both the driver and rear door.
2. Closed Driver door.
3. Pushed lock button on driver door handle. (Nothing happens.)
4. Closed rear door expecting the delay to begin followed by the locking of all doors. (Nothing happens, i.e., no chimes, no locking.

Tried using the key fob:
1. Opened both driver door and rear door.
2. Pushed LOCK on the fob and all doors immedately locked. Doors were still open.

I have never heard the three chimes. When shoud they sound in the closing of the doors and locking sequence?

Thanks for your support.

I have driven the car 40 miles to the dealer three times now to demonstrate the problem and now they want me to bring it in again not because they have a candidate solution but to see the problem again. Not a happy camper!

I would be happy to look into this for you. Contact me privately with the last eight of your VIN for more assistance. Thank you.

May help to know if the car is able to perform this feat. Does the car have the keyless entry/start option? My 11 has the delayed lock function but does not have the keyless entry/start even available. I dont have three chimes to announce it is active. By using the lock button on center stack, one press only after removing key and opening a door, the car will lock once all doors have been shut for a preprogrammed time. Press the button twice and all lock immediately.

Buick Customer Service and my dealer teamed-up to resolve the problem. Seems the computer wasn't programmed correctly. Here is how it now works: BTW, the car is equipped with the passive keyless entry. After stopping the engine and opening the driver's door, the delayed locking can be initiated by pushing the LOCK button on the center stack up. Three chimes will be heard. The doors will lock and the horn will sound after the delay period. The delay period is started when the last open door closes. I'm now a happy 🙂 camper - I really like this car! Love the European feel.
