Disable Automatic Stop/Start

I doubt GM has problem with ASS disable module, since the GM dealers are installing it.

I haven’t been able to get a GM dealer to disable it. I have no problem to turn this awful thing off.

Bummer... it doesn’t list the Tourx as compatible.
Says it is only for V6 and V8 vehicles, but did not really check out since my ASS is already disabled.

If you can follow instructions, install is very easy.

Just ordered mine. If you put code FEELTHEPOWER at checkout, you'll get $10 off.
Brings it down to $189.
We shall see how it is going to work on '18 red needles X

Which device are you using or what have you done to do it?
Earlier in this thread , I believe post #7....there is a 20190314_175510.jpglink Vaporguy was nice enough to put in hiis post.
Use to be code you could enter to save some money, but can not remember details.
It was worth the $139 or wbatever it was. Have to remove plastic cover in front of radiator on top, unplug existing elactrical conection and insert module in between the two connectors. Secure with zip ties provided then put cover back on. Easy Peasy!! Take your time have your favorite libation...make sure you release any clip holding conector together. Think about the minimum hour labor the dealer would have charged you.. and pay the $100 to yourself, for 5 minutes of work the second install would take you.

Hunter, the RangeTechnology Start/Stop device works with all GM vehicles. When I went to their website I went to the "Vehicles" drop-down and saw that my vehicle was not on the list. So I emailed them about it and one of their Customer Service Reps replied that the drop-down was only for the AFM Disabler (because that device prevents 6 & 8 cylinder cars from shutting down cylinders to save fuel). She assured me the Start/Stop device would work for my car (2019 Buick Regal Sportback), and sure enough she was right! If you are not sure then go ahead and email them - they responded to me within 24 hours.

I'm not 100% sure that all GM dealers will install the Auto Start/Stop device though. I asked my dealer and he said they would not install it (McKenney Chevrolet/Buick/GMC, Lowell, NC). We have bought 3 cars from them since 2008 and get regular service there, so I don't think he would lie to me. I can't speak for all GM dealers, I just know my dealer will not install it.

I prefer the RangeTechnology device over the Auto-Start-Stop device for the following reasons:

1) Auto-Start-Stop requires you to dis-assemble a panel under your hood in order to plug the device into the wiring harness. The Range-Technology device simply plugs into the On Board Diagnostics port underneath your steering wheel.

2) Auto-Start-Stop affects how the remote start on the car works (You have to press the buttons in a different sequence than normal). Range Technology does not affect remote start in any way.

Editing to correct an error: I keep calling the wiring harness device the Auto-Start-Stop, it is actually called the SmartStopStart: https://www.smartstopstart.com/

The Range Technology plug-in device is just called Start/Stop: https://rangetechnology.com/

Thank you! I like the RangeTechnology as the remote start will work as normal and also it is very easier to remove when going in for service. I am going to try it out.

You will be a very happy camper without ASS!

Looking forward to your review of RangeTech unit. I don't think that they were available 6 months ago when the SmartStopStart box came out for the '18-19 Regals. If you're keen on the remote start feature, that may be worth the extra $$. Either way, I (and a few others on this forum) think you will enjoy your car much more without having to second-guess the nagware.

Now, is this module is going to work like a on/off button? Does it mean there is a way of installing the button? I'm waiting for my, order has been placed.

The RangeTechnology device just plugs into the OBD port that is underneath your steering wheel. There is no on/off switch - just plug and go.

I got that, but it tells me that it is acting like an on/off switch that you can see on Opel/Vauxhall , rather than harness with time delay relay, that simulates an open hood for a second. Would be interesting to see what is inside the module and how it interacts with OBD port.

I have the Auto stop/start defeat module and it has been excellent. It did fail to work on one occasion during the 7k or so miles since I've installed it. I was driving along and noticed that the Auto start/stop feature was working. I shut the engine off at a long red light and turned the car back on and everything was working normally again (auto stop start disabled).

Which of the two devices do you have,
The wiring harness device SmartStopStart: https://www.smartstopstart.com/
or the Range Technology plug-in device Start/Stop: https://rangetechnology.com/

The first one that tricks that car into thinking it is in service mode with the hood open. I often get a hood open warning when I first start the car but not every time. It quickly goes away and everything works flawlessly. I've only had one instance in over 7k miles when the auto start/stop kicked on for some reason but it was just a small annoyance.

Ok, thanks. I have the RangeTechnology devices and thus far for 2,000+ plus miles I have not had any issues yet.

I've not gotten a hood open warning so far with the smartstop module under the hood. I like not having the engine turn off while I'm parking anymore, installation was easy as it gets, but I don't like the way it interferes with the remote start feature. On the other hand I don't want to plunk down another $200 for now for the rangetechnology device on top of what I already spent. Maybe I'll test out the refund policy while in my 90 day trial period on the smartstop.

On the range technology, whats up with the LED? Is it on all the time? Is the LED an annoyance?
