on a 2000 buick regal ls. is access to the fuel pump in the trunk, or do you have to drop the tank? my car is at the shop and i was just wondering. thanks

There is access in the trunk but some people still elect to drop the tank.
Working in the trunk is access-limited and you have to worry about fume build-up too. Last time I did a pump with in-trunk access I removed the back seats for better access but if I had a hoist in my garage I'd probably just have dropped the whole thing.

Thats cheap. Most newer vehicles get the whole sender assembly for a pump and it can hit $800 or more.

it wasnt my fuel pump/ it was the mass oxygen sensor. 175.00 for a new one. used one at junk yard was 25.00.

You mean Mass Airflow Sensor?
Yes that's a common failure and often mistaken for fuel delivery issues.
Most of the aftermarket replacements DON'T WORK so you might be better of with the salvage yard unit.

Salvage is the way to go. They are were used on a wide range of 3.8s and easy to find salvage. I have heard many horror stories on auto part stores aftermarket ones.

Actually I have had pretty good with the originals on the Regals. Only had one go out and it drove me crazy trying to figure it out. No code thrown, but the car would stall at lights when the engine got warm, miss when accelerating and problems would go away when the car cooled off. Figured it was heat related.

they can drive you crazy for sure. lol
