After about 800 miles, my average mileage has been 22 mpg (on premium fuel), which honestly seems pretty low. I've been driving very leisurely, up shifting when the car wants me to, even though I think it wants the engine speed too low.

My last car was an Audi A6 that had AWD, 3.2 liters and 2 more cylinders, and about +300 pounds over the Buick... I got 21 mpg on that car, so I was expecting better with the GS.

I suppose with a rated 17 city/27 hwy mpg, 22 is right in the middle, so maybe I'm being too greedy?

Give it some more miles. I started out at 21.7 (70% highway) and now with 2000 miles on it I am up to 24.6. Not sure if you are in the colder weather climate or not - but if so, it will be less due to the temperature and the fact that additives are added to the gas for freeze up prevention that will produce less results. Don't trust the DIC either, calculate the mileage yourself as the DIC has always been on the low side for me.

I am averaging 22 mpg on premium with my GS. I have only been through one tank and have 450 miles on it. It would be nice if the gas mileage increased a little over time.

The fuel economy estimates are based on results of tests required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These tests are used to certify that vehicles meet the federal emissions and fuel economy standards. The vehicles are driven by a professional driver under controlled laboratory conditions, on an instrument similar to a treadmill. These procedures ensure that each vehicle is tested under identical conditions; therefore, the results can be compared with confidence. Please keep in mind that these ratings are estimates.

Mileage has generally increased on my cars after a few tanks of gas. I would think this car should be firmly in the 25 mpg range after break-in.
