Help HMI Replacement

Danune55,
From what I've read some have had luck using the old USB Port w/SD Card Reader
while others needed to replace it.
I just went ahead and changed mine to avoid any trouble, it was only about $20 on Ebay.
I think the part number is 13519224?
I'm wondering if the people that didn't have problems by some chance had the Newer
USB Port installed at the factory when the cars were made?

Below is a Quote from the WAMS Website:
In addition to the HMI and proper mating Radio Module the only other thing you’ll need to get is a 2016+ USB hub (this does not need to be shipped in to us) that goes in your console to replace your non compatible older version. This is the USB module where you plug your devices into that has two ports and likely an SD Card reader these vary by console style. For most applications the part number for this unit is 13519224 and can be found many different places online including Amazon. The new USB hub does not have an SD Card reader and there are no compatible hubs for this upgrade that have the SD Card Reader unfortunately.

I see your dilemma now, the price has jumped from the $20 I paid in May of 2020 to the
current rate of $50 - $85.95 on Ebay
Just found one on Amazon for $124.94, holy $hit!

I received my Reprogrammed NG 2.5 HMI and Radio Module back from White Automotive & Media Services Wednesday evening around 5:30pm.
I sent it to them Friday, June 5th at 3:33pm and received it back less than a Week later on Wednesday, June 10th at 5:30pm.
This time included Travel Time to and from White Automotive (WOW).

I had already replaced the Old USB w/SD Card Reader with a New USB w/o SD Card Reader.
I replaced the USB about a week ago, figured I'd just get a jump on this Upgrade!

I spent about 2-3 hours tearing apart my 2015 Buick Regal today.
I started with tearing out the Glove Box and replacing the Radio Module.
Wasn't hard getting the Glove Box out with only 4 bolts holding it in.

I then replaced the Old NG 2.0 HMI with the Newly Reprogrammed NG 2.5 HMI.
It took some time tearing the Touchscreen, AC/Heat Controls, Ash Tray all out.
Had to give each and every piece a bit of muscle to get them out.
Kept Praying I wouldn't Break anything (I didn't).

It is all installed and looks as great as it did before I tore it apart.
I now have Apple Car Play and Android Auto, 2020 Map Upgrade and Full HMI Unlocked Programming.
Haven't had much time today to play with all the features, but I'm sure that will come with time.

It was IMO an expensive venture, but I think it's worth it!
I know I can use the Rear Camera as I'm driving, not just when backing up!
Think that will help when driving on the Highways.
Also good for watching Tailgaters to know when I should hit the brake, JK!

BTW, I have a more detailed version on the Buick Regal 2011-2017/Buick Regal GS Forum under the title HMI Upgrade!
Can you share which steering wheel controls are not working while using CarPlay? For example, does the volume while on a CarPlay call or music work? What about answering and hanging up a call in CarPlay?

I haven't really tried the Steering wheel controls while using Car Play.
I don't listen to the music that's on my iPhone as I have all the same
music (Plus More) on a 128gb USB and it's always plugged in.
Most of the time I listening to the radio anyway.

As for Phone Calls or Texts, I normally just touch the Touch Screen to answer.
Then almost everything I do from then on is with Siri thru the iPhone.
Siri Reads my Texts, Siri reads my written texts back to me, and asks if I want to send them.

I do know my Steering Wheel Controls work for the Radio (Volume Up/Down, Programmed Channels Up/Down, etc...).
I'll have to check the controls to see if they work with the iPhone.
It might be a couple days before I can get out there to check as we're having a second Thanksgiving tomorrow.
We'll be taking my wife's SUV instead of my Regal.

GriffN84,
I checked my Regal today and yes, both the Volume Up/Down and Song Up/Down on the Steering Wheel Control work using my iPhone for Music thru the Car Play App.

That’s great news! Thanks!

GriffN84,
I do really like having Car Play, I'm glad I was able to upgrade.
I would have thought your 2016 Buick Lacrosse would have come with the Car Play/Android Auto feature.
Who knows, maybe your Lacrosse was made in late 2015, before it was available?

I really wish I could do the same upgrade with my wife's 2013 GMC Terrain, but it's unavailable.
She really needs it more than I do, as she gets more calls and texts than I do.

I must have fat fingered the year…mine is a 2015. I like the idea of having it, but I’m struggling to justify $500…oh wait, they are charging $619 now. Ouch! Anyway… if I could snag a used one and install it, I’d be all over it. But between either buying new with programming or getting used and mailing off and paying for programming, it’s a bit pricey.

I think mine was around $1000.
I did keep the Factory Navigation plus got the 2020 Upgrade, more $$$.

I purchased my HMI and Radio Modules on Ebay (which was all included
in that Price Tag of $1000).

But buyer beware, I purchased from two different Scrap Yards.
The Scrap Yard selling the HMI Module had placed a different sticker over
the real part number sticker!
White Automotive has a List of parts that will work for this upgrade.
The Sticker on top was in White's List, but the sticker underneath wasn't.
This scrap yard charged more for the part because the part number on the
fraudulent sticker was in the list!
The actual part they sold me was from the Earlier run of 2016 and didn't have
the Android Auto Feature installed!

I didn't look at the sticker that closely when it arrived.
I sent the HMI and Radio Modules to White Automotive, they then returned
them once the reprogramming to my VIN was completed.
I have an iPhone and it worked great once I had it installed.
But a month or so later I was considering buying a new phone and was thinking
about buying an Android Phone instead of an iPhone.
I borrowed my sisters Samsung but couldn't get it to work, Android Auto wasn't
even showing up on the screen.

I contacted White and they asked if I had sourced my own parts.
I told them I had and that the parts I purchased were in their list.
They told me to send them the HMI Module and they would see what they could
do for me.
After I removed the HMI Module, I took a good look at the sticker on the HMI.
I could see other Numbers and Letter under the sticker that was on top.
It wasn't that easy to see them, but sure enough, they were there!
I did send the HMI Module back to White and they took care of me, I now have
Android Auto on the Fraudulent HMI Module I had purchased on Ebay.

Below, is a Picture of my HMI.
If you look closely, you can see what looks like Shadows off to the right of the
numbers and letters.
Next to the 7 in the number 84096817, you can see what looks like an 8 or a 6.
But that's not the only one you can see easily, look at the GM in the Upper Left
Corner, you can see the letter M in the sticker that's underneath.
You can see these Shadows next to almost all the numbers and letters.

My local Buick dealership diagnosed the black screen problem on my 2015 lacrosse as a faulty HMI module. I am getting conflicting information on whether a used salvage HMI module can be installed and programed to my vehicle vin#. Even the Buick service department is unsure if it can be programed. I did install the salvage module and still have a black touchscreen. I thought that it would at least light the screen but would not be fully functional. They suggest programming it to see if it will work. Before I spend another $165 on something that may or may not work I would think that someone would have definitive knowledge if It is even possible to be programed. I am grateful for any input.. Thanks, Dave
Did you ever got your used HMI unlocked and programmed to your buick ? I'm wondering as to buy a used the dealer is just to much $$$
