Horn won't stop, switch in steering wheel stuck

Part 4

So I just disconnected the left side to the switch and disconnected the right side also and then connected the left side of the switch to the right side, this is not needed to be done, but I just wanted to see if the problem was in the wiring, which it wasn't

Further I did completely disconnect all wires so I could look closer at the removable air, horn, radio control part, and that step is not needed, I was just curious

Then just put the air, horn, radio control part back in place
Part 5

Then before going forward, press the horn and it should work

If not check the position of the switch and the cotton stuffing, with the cotton stuffing securely holding the switch in place, as the switch has to be pretty close to the exact location to work

I know I know, how weird the switch is and what the heck went wrong to begin with

I'm not sure why this works but I needed to get the state inspection today and the horn needed to work

In my case only the right side of the steering wheel horn works, with both horns under the hood working when pressed

Its possible the left side of the steering wheel horn could work if I hooked it up, but I will save that for someday when I have free time

Further this week I saw an ad in eBay showing the air, horn and radio control part and that gave me enough courage to try to fix the issue myself

Lastly total time to fix stuck horn issue is less than 10 minutes the second time, but the first time around take ur time and there is little chance u will break anything

Further if u know which side appears to be failing, u only need to disconnect that side from the switch

The device from Walmart the clamps down on the air, horn and radio control part can help determine which side is failing

I can live with just one side of the steering wheel horn working and so I passed the state inspection today

Good luck and I am clueless as to why or how someone said they removed foam as the solution as I did not see any foam

Good luck

If one side of the air bag switch fails & you disconnect it, the other side is not far behind! I have never seen "cotton stuffing" in an air bag! BTW, the OP's post was in the RM form & you seem to be talking about a LeSabre?

Hi ๐Ÿ™ƒ

My switch was not secure in the base of the steering wheel and the replacement part is discontinued ๐Ÿ˜•

Do not attempt to remove existing switch from base of steering wheel, rather if u need to disconnect the other 2 ends from the air, horn and radio control part ๐Ÿซค, but really if u know which side is causing the issue then only disconnect that side - otherwise u wil need to test one side at a time and hopefully that it, game over ๐Ÿ˜

The white plastic in my case is very old and brittle, so in ur case tender loving care is needed to ensure the piece remains intact, less u will need a piece of cotton to position it just like the photo ๐Ÿ™ƒ

The switch would appear not to be intended to be removed in one piece, so if ur switch is loose then use cotton to secure it in the photo position as that could be the cause of the constant horn being stuck too ๐Ÿค”

I have never seen cotton used before either but the cotton is only touching the white plastic part of the switch ๐Ÿ˜

Yes I need a new car as 1999 was a long time ago, but as I am very old and drive very little now a days, every penny counts and the reason for my post was to pass on what worked for me today ๐Ÿ˜

Other news: the new guy at the state inspection quick lube place forgot to release the emergency brake and drove the car into the stall ๐Ÿ˜ฒ good grief ๐Ÿ™„ oh well it was a short distance ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ ugh ๐Ÿ˜•

Hi ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Please note I only used a small piece of the cotton in the photo and not the whole piece of cotton in the photo, special note on the small screw driver used to tuck the cotton patch in place ๐Ÿ˜

Further my first attempt without the cotton being used results in horn not working at all ๐Ÿ˜•

Then resulting to using cotton versus anything else was selected because the correct placement of the switch was needed ๐Ÿค”

Further if ur switch is wiggle๐Ÿค• like mine was u might have to move it around a bit to get the correct needed location to make the existing switch to work correctly versus the exact position my switch is in the photo previously uploaded ๐Ÿค”

Lastly cotton seems to help speed up the correcting location of the switch ๐Ÿ™ƒ but I am clueless exactly how a horn switch works, but remember not to allow any wire tug ๐Ÿงpressure on the switch as a way to help ensure ur older plastic piece of switch does not get damaged ๐Ÿ™„

Lastly it's possible when a mechanic๐Ÿ˜Ÿ works on replacing the ignition part of the steering wheel that mechanic or locksmith will damage ๐Ÿค•ur horn switch when disconnecting the wires from the air, horn and radio control part, so tell them to be careful or the horn may not work, along those lines, as generally the Buick Lesabre ignition part overtime will need to be replaced in my opinion based on my past experience only.๐Ÿซค

Hopefully those others who have this problem in the future will have a successful outcome and one YouTube influencer opinion video on disconnecting the under the hood horns has a direct link to this thread, so this thread should remain available, even as the thread gets older. ๐Ÿ˜

If anything goes wrong with my fix๐Ÿค•, I will update this thread, but I seriously doubt anything can go wrong ๐Ÿ™‚

This YouTube influencer opinion video, looks like a mechanic๐Ÿง, says to spray some kind of lube on the inside backside of the air, horn and radio control part; so if u want both sides, Right and Left, of the horn to work and u have the air, horn and radio control part off u might consider this option while u have access to being able to spray the inside backside of the air, horn and radio control part after removing the 2 - 6 point screws with a screwdriver, photos previous provided:

Last note:

I've ๐Ÿ˜placed the following on several YouTube influencer opinion videos regarding Buick Lesabre stuck horn issue:

Special note: u may find it easier to give this forum link to a mechanic to get an over the cellphone estimate of costs to fix stuck horn issue, as the real big problem has been the costs of paying a mechanic to figure out the solution, and thus for let's say $30 they fix the issue in 20 minutes would be cool ๐Ÿ˜Ž

-----

The following thread shows how to fix the problem after u have checked that the Relay is working properly with lots of photos

To check the relay is working correctly: with battery connected and horns disconnected or horn fuse pulled, the below link shows photos of removing horn fuse, press the horn and u should hear a clicking noise coming from under the hood, that would be the working relay, also consider having the driver's door open and hood raise to be able to hear the relay click easier, and so if relay is working properly then go to the Buick Lesabre forum below for more details, okay.

Do not drive without a horn as it could result in a no fault traffic accident and in Texas if u get pulled over after Dec 31, 2024; u will get a ticket for driving without a horn and then if ur plates r run by traffic enforcement, ur going to get pulled over again and again until u get the horn fixed or something else like license to drive issues to my understanding and opinion based on other Google search News results:

Nothing but Cowboy State Troopers in Texas & there thousands of them looking to pull over someone for the slightest speeding or other small infraction! Lived there & got the hell out! They should be protecting the border, rather than playing ROBO COP on the highways!

Yep ๐Ÿ˜ here in Texas traffic tickets r really bad news, and here in Texas if u ignore ur traffic ticket, moving or nonmoving, on ur showup in court traffic court date, the judge ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš–๏ธwill issue ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ a warrant for ur arrest ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿš”

I read from Google news that for a couple days in Texas, as in testing it out by traffic enforcement, there was setup a safety inspection check point ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿš” along a road, where over 1,500 violation where handed out to both commercial and noncommittal vehicles ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Further I read that any safety items found must be fixed prior to traffic court date and if done in time, noncommittal vehicles would only have to pay a $10 admin fee ๐Ÿซค

So hopefully people with the horn issue r able to find this link for a piece of mind ๐Ÿค”

Oops ๐Ÿ˜ that should have said non-commercial vehicles and not noncommittal ๐Ÿ˜• above. Further ๐Ÿ™„ in Texas there is $150 fine, if ur horn is stuck and ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ they discover it ๐Ÿš” or it is reported, and only the traffic court ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš–๏ธ can wave it, per incident, which can ad up ๐Ÿ’ฐ

Hyper Tough 12-Inch Trigger Ratcheting Bar Clamp and Spreader

Hyper Tough 12-Inch Trigger Ratcheting Bar Clamp and Spreader - from Walmart $6.44

U just need this placed on the center of the driving wheel and tighten it where it will not slip off: for about a week and the problem goes away
Goto Oct 29 2024 for the possible solution ๐Ÿ˜ (lots of photos) to Buick Lesabre horn stuck issue as well as provided YouTube influencer opinion video ๐Ÿ™‚ to a mechanic ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”งsolving the issue on other Make and Models ๐Ÿš—, as it appears some mfgs make the fix easier than Buick Lesabre by using some kind of lub spray between the airbag touching ๐Ÿซค the vinyl, that the mechanic๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ง demos on YouTube an actual other Make and Model ๐Ÿš— stuck once in a while horn issue ๐Ÿ™ƒ

U can also refer the link to car shops ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ง to get an over the cellphone quote as u ๐Ÿ™„ may not be able to attempt to fix urself, which is fine, as the biggest assumed costs in the repair is the time of the mechanic ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ง attempting to learn the solution ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ plus please understand I have the 1999 Buick Lesabre service manual and there is nothing in it on this stuck horn issue ๐Ÿ˜• overlooking the fact, especially in warmer climate areas of the USA it has been happening for many years ๐Ÿ˜ฏ
