How many miles on your 3.1?

I at 147000 and counting on my 92 3.3. good little engine

On my 1994 3.1, I have 302,000 miles and hope to get 400,000.

My 2001 just rolled 290000 still running well but up here in maine the salt has finally ending the life of the vehicle. Original transmission also. I do keep up with the mantaince. I did remove the dex cool at 80000. Good luck

My 1999 is sitting at 155k. I got it in the summer of 2008 with 43k on it (formally my grandma's car). It had the head gasket / intake manifold gasket replaced in it at around 25k. I've done all of the maintenance on it since then. Just finished rebuilding the front end on it this weekend (tie rod ends, control arms, sway bar links, struts). I'm hoping to get it to 200k before rust claims it.

My '01 has just over 175K and runs great. Has a few electrical issues, mostly just inexpensive components to be swapped out, and a coolant leak. Usual lower intake manifold, but still has a severe mystery leak even with that repair done. And the poor rocker panel barely even exist anymore. Say, does anyone else have an upside-down badge on the grill? Mine is upside-down, but it doesn't seem like that would be an easy thing to do.

UPDATE.....My 1997 Century now has 156,677 miles and runs like a new car! In the cold weather the last several days (this morning was -13 below) it started right up. In cold weather make sure you let the car heat up about 10 minutes and drive slow the first few miles. The transmission has to warm up or you can really screw things up in there!

I have 181381 on my 00 century. leaks absolutely no oil, even over a 10k mile oil change(amsoil xl 10k mile oil with bosch distance plus 15k mile oil filter) tranny uses no oil either and its all origional. everything is tight as a tick. I would definitely recommend this oil/filter combination.

My 94 Century 3.1 has 195,000 miles
Car was from Pa. and is about rust free. Car is loaded with options and the a/c still works.
I bought it 6 yrs. ago for $800 and use it as a winter rat.
Motor is noisy at start up but quiets down after a few minutes. Runs smooth as a watch. Uses NO oil between changes.
Had to tell when its running at times!
No regrets here.

I currently sit right above 124k on my '99 3.1.

Bought the car at 78k. I haven't done anything motor wise.

Replaced all 4 window motors, tie rod ends, one battery, front brakes and rotors, short in the wiring on inside of the trunk lid and the drivers side transmission axle seal due to it leaking a little bit of fluid.

Besides them things just oil changes whenever I feel like it needs changed.

No intake manifold gaskets yet (fingers crossed)

This thing has hit a deer at 70, ran over a coyote, been pelted with rocks from trucks, hit multiple birds and is sometimes hot rodded by me. Best work car ever.

2002 Century 3.1L 186000 - Needs a thermostat

*First Post😉😉*

My 03 Century has 99,300. Knockinging on the 100k door. Engine has been solid as a rock. Trans has a bit of slipping going on. Gonna get to the bottom of that soon. 2000 Century has 220,000 and is flawless. Had some normal EGR issues in the past and that's it.

My 01 Century has 124,500 on it and it is really running well. No window problems. Screeches when it starts up sometimes on cold days. The AC needed replenishing. I see keeping it for a few more years if the rust lets me. I think the Buick Century should be on the very underrated list.

I don't currently own a 3.1 powered car, but i have owned 2 and worked on enough to tell you which bolts are which anywhere on the engine. The most i've seen with my own eyes is 189,000. But the car was still running great. I gave it a one year warranty on labor and it ran 2 years past the warranty without needing anything more than a water pump. It would however take a page to give the history of that particular engine. I think when coolant and oil are well maintained, the first major repair is the intake gasket failure which on the three i had were all 10k miles within 100,000 miles. (But there are reports of failure as early as 60,000 and probably some sooner than that) The ones i had i also bought after the intake gasket suffered major failure and major damage was caused by not taking care of the issue when it first became an issue. And in each instance required a 400-600 dollar trip to the machine shop and me providing 100% of the removal and engine disassembly and reassembly. However to get another 100,000 or more if you use the updated metal gaskets getting an additional 100-150,000 miles+ without having to worry about the mechanical aspect of the engine. I don't know if the 3.1 could take a third rebuild. The 3.8 is my engine of choice. I have one sitting on the porch waiting it's first rebuild that probably isn't necessary right now, but while it's out of the car to save me the hassle and it will be just like new. It has 282,000 miles and no rebuilds yet. This seems to be typical of the 3.8. However, it is only available in the larger bodied cars, and the 98-99 Monte carlo z34 is the only midsize car that had it available that i'm aware of. However if you use a series II engine in a 96 or up 3.1 powered car it is not that impossible or difficult of a swap to put the 3.8 N\A into most 3.1 powered cars (Not sure about malibu's). But It will bolt up to the 4t60e transmission (which is or was the most common transmission used with the 3.1 during the late 90's).

71,000 miles on my 94 Century Special Wagon

I got a free 1999 Buick Century in January 2016 with 92,000 miles on it from an old family friend who stopped driving at 85.

It has been fine, and likes moving from salty Connecticut to snowless southern Georgia.

The car now has 110,000 miles on it, and has received the following:

Battery, three synthetic oil changes, wiper blades, MAACO $250 Paint job, replaced headlamps, passenger air filter, fixed the glove compartment with JB-Weld, replaced bad power steering return hose and fluid, new trunk arms, replaced exterior and interior lights, new driver window controls, coolant flush and fill, new P205/70R15 tires, front end alignment, front brakes (discs and rotors), new blower motor resistor.

Basically, ALL electrical and maintenance, NO drive train issues.

It has been a good car.

Nice maintenance job so far, but do not forget the trans fluid & filter! Use Valvoline MAX full synthetic fluid! http://www.valvoline.com/our-products/automatic-transmission-products

Just shy of 200,000 miles, and still going strong! no leaks and only scheduled maintenance.

2002 Century Custom 3.1 Liter - 195,000 miles - Just did a pan drop fluid and filter change over the weekend. Boy, did it ever need it! the old fluid was black in color in the clear basin I drained it into!.
